How to get WRT54GL on the internet?

Hello everyone :)

I've setup dozens of routers before, but for some reason I am unable to get a friends WRT54GL on the internet. It's an old router, so I updated the firmware dd-wrt. I then entered the pppoe username and password, saved, restarted, but it is still unable to connect to the internet. I've been over dozens of settings with no luck. Can someone give me help or a step by step guide?
 
Is the WRT54GL not a wanport router, this may be a dumb question but if it is do you have a ADSL Modem plugged into it?
 
You need an ADSL modem in bridge mode between the WAN port on the WRT54GL and ADSL line. WRT doesnt have an ADSL modem in it.
 
I've thought of it not being an ADSL modem, but I was told it was used before to connect to the internet? Secondly, I am able to enter pppoe details, but there is no bridge mode etc. So I guess it isn't an adsl router/modem? :/
 
Haha ok I just checked the ports, they are all normal LAN ports and nothing for a telephone line. Didn't help having a few tequillas before being asked to fix someones internet.

Ok, so here's another problem. At home they have a Telkom ADSL router with no wireless, but they want wireless, and at their holiday house they have a wireless Telkom ADSL router but the signal doesn't reach the bottom floor of the house. I'm thinking of taking the Telkom Non-Wireless + WRT54GL to the holiday house, and then the telkom wireless to their house. Then if the signal still doesn't reach at the holiday house they can buy a repeater. Is this the most logical way about?

Yeah we know that, you've already been told more than once that it's not an ADSL router. You make it sound like you suddenly discovered the problem yourself.

I love it how people suddenly come up with excuses just because they didn't know something. It's OK if someone else helped you on the forum, that's the whole point. Even if you've "setup dozens of routers before". ;)

Instead of buying repeaters buy higher db antennas.
