How to GPS track a car?

Depends on the purpose. You can even use a cheap phone, or Chinese device

Tracker has a system where you can track a vehicle live - you can see the speed, location etc.
Think it is only for Fleet options though.

Use an OBD tracking device. It plugs into your vehicle diagnostic port and you can get etc codes , fuel, rpm, etc depending on the vehicle, device and software you are using

I’m assuming you have one… given your history and all.

I have tested the Queclink GV500

It has issues though with ignition detection on certain vehicles, but was able to provide me a lot of telemetry data on my Ford focus and Nissan Micra. I tried it on my uncles and a client's Toyota, and had to emulate ignition (based on movement) , which is not ideal

I tested the previous variants of the Teltonika units, but we are not using them as a supplier (admin reasons rather than technical) anymore, so haven't used it in a while. Their hardware is solid though

We are ordering ruptela units for testing. Their stuff looks good as well. I hope it works out

The gosafe units are decent, but a bitch to configure. The advantage is they are available in SA, but too expensive for the type of business we do

I think I need to look for my GV500 again and post some info here.

This is one of my favourite units, as it can be powered as well as used as a personal tracker.

But you won't get any engine parameters from there, just ignition and some anolgues and digitals

Actually you can get it for your own personal vehicle as well, called SkyTrax/Track. Have it fitted and it shows you odometer reading, if the ignition is on or off, exact location. As well as a log of your speeds in various areas.

Yup, have this, works well :) Discovery Insure can also give you a DQ-Track system installed that is basically the same, except it's through C-Track and includes an accelerometer (to monitor your driving). Got that too now. Tech ftw.
