How to hurt the municipality

Our suburb is regularly without water, 10 days now for 2023. Lots of people installed tanks, but lots cannot afford. The basic reason is the municipality does not pay the water board, water board, does not have money to fix pumps.
Here is the question, the residents want to strike /block, but no burning tyres. Something that will let the anc let municipality take note.
Was wondering if blocking the gates at there office so they cannot go home, but they will simply get the police.
What way will be effective.

Let it collapse and don't help. That is the only thing that will allow for real change trying to keep it alive only prolongs the suffering.

I know this is a hard path but until the people who voted them in feel the pain they won't care.
 
A petition has the power to topple governments.

Just kidding. Violence and riots is what you are are looking for.

Vote for someone else at the next election?
 
Rates boycott, but you need to get a lawyer involved and most of the residents in your area need to support it for it to have any effect.

Even that is not really enough.

To really effect change, you have to make it more expensive personally for the people in charge not to not fix it.
In a well functioning democracy, that would mean they are voted out and they lose their jobs.

In a country where their party has no real chance of being voted out in that municipality... who knows?
 
This is not the best place to ask this type of question. Please refer to historic records of other similarly affected informal settlements, and take note how they handled this situation.

Absolutely shocking. The rubbish strewn along the streets reminds me of rural Senegal where every town has massive dumps of garbage at the entrance and exit of every town. Freetown Sierra Leone has a massive, I mean massive, dump in the middle of the city after years or war and no functioning government.

And here we are, not even 30 years into democracy and we are teetering on the edge of chaos and filth and collapse in many municipalities and towns and it’s only getting worse and still the people are voting ANC.

I think the only path open is to hit rock bottom, there will be bloodshed, and then the rebuilding as people realise the truth that the populist politicians do not have their interests at heart.

It’s now a question of when. Not if.
