So I struggle having an appetite, It's like literally having to force myself to eat because I know I just have to, I never get those feelings like wow im so hungry I could eat a cow type of thing. I am a bit of a heavy smoker and I know this can have an impact on it, but anything you guys could suggest to give me that lust for food?

Smoking is known to decrease appetite. Another idea is to gym more. Both will help.

Realistically, to increase appetite you need to increase metabolism. Start by drinking a glass or 2 of water first thing when you wake up. Also, eating meals at the same time of day every day will get your body into a routine, and should help with this aswell.

Getting some exercise done will also boost the metabolism and therefore get you hungry.

Could you give me any suggestions of how to suppress my appetite other than to start smoking again? I'm the exact opposite, always hungry, I drink a lot of coffee and tea to try and suppress it but it doesn't work for very long. ;)

Low GI.

exercise, drink 2l water and eat more (ironically enough)- 5 small portions during the day, keeping proteins for dinner time

Ya I usually start work at about 13:00 and finish at 19:00 and generally wake up at 9 or 10 in the morning and usually go sleep at about 1 or 2 in the morning, drink about 2-3 litres of water a day, have cut out alot of sugars. Been living in Germany now for 3months maybe cause its just different, but I had the same problem back in SA, and its not like im depressed that causes me not to have an appetite, I agree I have a fast metabolism, I've weighed about 60 kg for the past 4 years and am 23 now.

Quit smoking and start excercising. Spend your quality free time before work donnering your body at a gym or something. You'll soon get that "need to eat the @rse out of a low flying duck" feeling.

Heh, heh... I've weighed about that for as long as I can remember, and I'm 37 now. But I do eat like a horse. Of course, I also train for three hours everyday.

Swim, will increase your appetite and get you into shape and feeling better as well.
40 -60 laps a session should do it.

I smoke, but I gym, too. And have to admit, I was stuck in the "not-hungry-just-eat-to-survive" rut until I started working out. You get HUNGRY. Before and after gym, on my days off - I just wanna eat. I gained about 15kg in lean mass in about 6 months. Yes, I added a protein shake to keep my body topped up, but the rest of the time I just eat. Eating, like smoking, can also be habitual: you just end up doing it because.
