How to join server in COD4?

I know this is probably a stupid question, but where the hell do u go to add the server IP, is there something Im missing here.

1) Start game and click on "Join Server"

2) Click the ~ key on the keyboard and type in /connect <IP> and hit "Enter".

** Make sure there is a space in between /connect and the ip address
 
Or create new favorite and add the following ip adresses

196.4.79.78:28960

and

196.4.79.78:28970

Dude, it took me some thinking to figure that out too :p I felt like a bit of a chop. Eventually I managed to figure it out and WiseCrack has the right solution below:

The cool thing about this is once you have it in your favourites, from now on you simply open the tab and click on the server name. No more entering IP's or anything.

Hope to see you on there! *and watch out for Chicken, he likes knifing you 200 times in a round*
 
Hi guys
When i try to connect to some private server some "Punkbuster" keeps asking me to enable that client. So what to do with it?

I get "Awaiting key code authorization" when I click on Join Server :confused: and then the connection to the server times out after 11s.

I've installed both patches 1.1 and 1.2 listed on games.saix.net. Not sure if that's got anything to do with the problem?

Anyone got any ideas?

Edit: My key checks out and is legit.

The connection time out is a Flawed Setting put in game.

The Quick Fix:
1. Open Console. Do this by pressing the ~ key.
2. Now you will see a console window open on the top of your screen.
3. To Open a larger console hold SHIFT and press the ~ key. This will open the console on your whole screen.
4. In the console type in the following: /cl_connectionAttempts 180 The default value is 10 which is way to low.

The Permanent Fix:
1. Locate the config_mp.cfg file in the following directory:
Call of Duty 4playersprofilesYourName.
2. Open the files with Wordpad NOT Notepad.
3. Locate the following lines in the file.
seta cl_anonymous "0"
seta cl_freelook "1"
4. Between these 2 lines enter the following line.
seta cl_connectionAttempts "180"
5. It should look like this when you done.
seta cl_anonymous "0"
seta cl_connectionAttempts "180"
seta cl_freelook "1"
6. Save the file and you are done.

Connect to the server and you are done.

Hmmm...I think someone has my key code but how's that possible?!?! I just bought the game this morning :confused:

If I try connecting to a game it says "Key code in use. Try connecting later"

WTF?!?!?

Was the dvd ase still sealed in plastic?
If not then go back to the store and kick up a storm!
 
Sorta on that topic,
My adsl is disconnecting alot while im trying to play and when i reconnect it says keycode in use. I usually just wait it out but is there a way to clear your ghost from the server quickly?

I had the same problem with a game last week. Apparently guys walk around the store & peel the tape of the game, then open it & grab the key. Staff @ Incredible told me of another prob where ppl buy the game, then return it saying that its an unwanted present etc. But what they fail to realise is that someones swiped the key when they guys return the game... :eek:
 
i was busy playing the game online, and then i was disconnected from the internet, when i tried reconnecting it said that my cdkey was in use,so i just waited a while and tried again. Did the same thing happen to you or was it saying that the first time you connected?
 
Oh and if your using Route Sentry by any chance, you'll need to disable one of your accounts seeing as COD4 can't distinguish between local and intl to authenticate your key. That's another reason why you will get the "Waiting for CDkey auth" message and only having it time out after 11secs.

lol i went to buy the game at incredible yesterday and the game was nowhere to be found. Upon asking the lady at the front counter, she opens a locked cupboard located behind the desk and hands me the game.

I asked why they are doing this, she said its the youngsters that do exactly what you are describing.. Quite a good idea, but if i didnt ask for the game, i wouldnt have known that they sell it!

They should invest in a glass case or something so that customers (thiefs) cannot do this..

Damn thiefs!!

By the way, the game is AWESOME!! Youll always get a busy SGS server at any time of the day and gameplay is really good fun!

I recommend it to everyone! :D
 
i thought everyone knew this,(sigh). All u have to do is update your pb this has happened to me so much i spent about 2 weeks researching the problem and finding a sollution. the easiest way is to use www.evenbalance.com and go to call of duty 4 then to dowloades then use pbsetup.:p its as easy as that. i dont know why it comes up with keycodeinuse,pleasetryreconnectinglater i think its just a way to say up your pb. hope it helps.:D
