How to keep your Internet connection during load-shedding

Load-shedding looks like it is here to stay for some time, according to Eskom.

Being without power for eight hours a day is not an enjoyable experience, but it is often made worse by the lack of an Internet connection.

I have a rather cheaper solution, based on a Sherlotronics DC power supply: http://www.sherlotronics.co.za/power-supply-12vdc-6-4a/
There is also a 3.2A version, which is somewhat cheaper. Our power was off for more than 9 hours, and the Internet stayed up for the duration, powering my Vumatel CPE, Unifi EdgeRouter X and Unifi AP AC LR (the latter two via a 12-24V boost converter and PoE injection).
I've been very happy with this as a solution, and the total cost was approximately R1000.

Thicko here how did you connect your stuff to that thing?

Same, so you get the 12v power supply and a 12v battery and then what?

Plus I have the added issue of my modem being in one room and my router in another down the hall.

My Signal/data connection is non-existant when there's loadshedding so a Mifi will not work. Probably not happening to everyone

As many have mentioned, keeping your router online is useless when the service provider doesn't bother with backup power. Like my awesome Telkom DSL.

Actually the problem is the phone itself dying, unless you have it connected to a powerbank or something...

I use mobile wifi (Rain) and a Laptop. No issues so far.

Bought a ZTE R218H mobile wifi router yesterday for R499 at Game. Plug that into a powerbank and we have uncapped internet during load shedding (Telkom Uncapped LTE SIM that I remove from my B525 router). Also have a Macbook Air so the battery lasts way longer than the load shedding.

ISP's need to up their game as i foresee many subscribers will start looking elsewhere soon

Luckily for me Rain stays up. I actually get better speeds during load-shedding.
