I just downloaded a huge amount of android apps. do i just copy the apk files to my sd card and run them from my SGS?

the apk files are on my laptop.

does my phone need to be rooted or does it depend on the app?

ok. i just downloaded apk manager. will try it. thx

Hope you got it sorted. If not, or for those who care how to get it working:
You just need to enable Unknown Sources, which can be found in Settings>Applications. And of course you'll need a file manager, for example ES Explorer or Astra File Manager, both of which can be found in the Android Marketplace. No need for root or anything like that.

Another method that has extra functions like back-up and restore is to use Android WiFi Sync manager. Its like USB sync but uses WIFI. You can install applications from your PC just by using the PC app and select install to send it to your phone. Also unlike other file managers you can do this from the PC instead of the phone.

I did manage to get some apps installed by saving to the sd card, selecting 3rd party/unknown sources in settings, and installing using apk manager.the wifi option sounds good cos the apps are taking up 2.8GB on my sd card.
