Hint:A good fitted blazer can turn a pair of blue denims and shirt into something smart to wear to that next cocktail affair.
Black smart shoes or 2 pairs.
Black Belt.
Black Tie
Black or dark grey Suit.

Black is basic!
Black is always in style and black hides countless sins.
Trust in black!

Once you have the stash above you can add in some of your personality.
Patterned T-shirts, colours. Different denims. Accessories.

Keep the add-ons simple and straight forward.
Mix and match. Bold color ties. Accessories that will highlight the items you are wearing.
If there is doubt, go back to basics. You will never fail.

Agreed on the black thing, it hides some physical abnormalities much better than white does. However I would say that it's subjective - it obviously depends quite a bit on your body type, posture, face and skin tone. Some people are able to pull off certain combinations much better than others.

I have everything listed there and once you do you can get very creative.
Got a nice new T-shirt, maybe its some fancy brand but you need to smarten it up a bit... formal jacket to the rescue. Suddenly you look smart and a bit devil-may-care.
Need to look semi formal with a non-collared shirt... smart dress shoes. And the slip on ones are easy to get off and very comfortable.
Today I am wearing dress shoes, a white long sleeve collared shirt and black jeans. Got told constantly today that I look smart. Have a white collared long sleeve shirt in your wardrobe because it makes you look very smart, throw on a black suit with a red tie and you have the ultimate power outfit for a meeting. Such an outfit could be put together for as little as R1,200. Although the shoes will bring it up to or over R2k depending on your taste. I learnt the hard way, if shoes are cheap they don't last so I generally drop R1k as a min on any dress shoe I buy.
