An observation of mine, of the last 15-20 years in the local context and with reference to wealthy individuals.
* Most get to keep their wealth through tax loopholes or creative accounting.
* Most hide their money offshore in tax havens.
* Most get rich in the first place, by paying as little as possible for goods and services.
* Many, many got rich via inheritance and/or being given a property that was only worth 120k in the apartheid years, and then selling it off for several bar.
* A few others had the privilege of working for international companies who actually reward their staff for innovation, unlike companies in SA.
It is easy to make money in this country, but its NOT easy to make bucketfuls of it without resorting to some means of the above.
