How to negotiate a salary increase

I will be meeting with HR to talk about my role and negotiate my salary. How does one negotiate. I don't think I can stonewall and say "give my 4k+ or I refuse"

Equally I don't want to be soft and lose out on extra cash.

Tips please - any employers out there :D

PS new job so can't use "I rock at my job"

Basically you need to show your value.

Show how you responsibilities have increased and show how your contribution has made a difference to projects you have worked on.
 
What you need to do is get an idea of what the market values your position at..

Then ask in that range, or slightly above and be prepared to negotiate down.

What would the going rate for an MI Analyst be, job role would include sql, BI and investigations within a call centre environment.

"Nett" preferable because my package amount is misleading.

Most jobs I find are just "market related"

It would be a better measure if you told us your experience and current earning. eg. R10-R15 was previous bracket.
 
go there ..demand you going to jump off the table and commit suicide if they dont pay you what you want

Take evidence of why you deserve an increase.

Don't just rock up and say "I want more money" because if you can't justify it you won't get it.

Get facts together for the past six months to a year of what you've added to the company that nobody else can, or in specific cases where you saved the company money or made the company money list those.

If he was promoted, wouldn't the convo rather be what just based on the salary because the promotion shows he has been adding value to the company :confused:. Hope you get what I mean.
 
What the posters have said above - take evidence in of your accomplishments while at the company, successfully projects, feedback from colleagues etc. You need to show them your value to the company.

MI Analyst, I know of a few. The guys that don't really want to work hard is around R25k cost to company (8 years experience) and the guy that adds a LOT of value and has been in the position 12 years is around R45k cost to company.
