How to NOT choose a password

Read this fantastic article about "The science of password selection".

Because my entire password database has come from compromised sites which are now readily available online, the reality is that none of these passwords should be used again. Ever.

Does this make anyone else not feel all warm and fuzzy inside? So much personal information is stored online and protected by a flimsy password...

Use 8 or more characters
Choose a combination of:
numbers
upper case letters
lower case letters
special characters such as ! $ * % @ # & -
(in some cases restrictions may apply )


Easy ways to create and remember strong passwords

Use lines from a childhood verse:
Jack be nimble, Jack be quick = JbeN#jbq1
Use an expression inspired by the name of a city:
I love Paris in the springtime = 1LpntST!
Chicago is my kind of town = C1mYK0t
Use lines from a favorite song:
You can't always get what you want = uC4n+agwUw!

Just make up your own and don't use ANYTHING that is existing. A quick Google search on the above tips gets a lot of hits, therefore, it's probably in a password cracking tool already...

Also, don't use any dictionary words!

Great article. Problem is to educate users and to get them to set a password they will remember - not easy.....

People are just lazy and don't understand the implications of bad passwords until it's too late...
