Greetings,

Have any of you got info on how to overclock a 6800GT?
Which progs to use, what are the limits, etc.

Many Thanks. :D

Riva Tuner & Coolbits :D

Using coolbits unlocks the overclocking option in the Nvidia menu, it has a "auto-detect" feature which will conservatively select a overclock for you.
Otherwise hit the net and see what other peeps are pushing your card too.

You should be using the Nvidia reference drivers for this: www.nvidia.com - Go download the latest official - 81.98 at the moment.

Once the drivers are installed, edit your registry, navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Nvidia Corporation\Global\NvTweak
Create a new DWORD value, call it 'Coolbits'. I'm currently using the value 'b' (Hex) or 11 (Decimal).

Now when you go check your nVidia driver settings, you should see a whole lot of funky new options.

ummm why overclock?

as far as i know there is hardly any difference unless your using some amazing cooling and your nailing the clocking big time

or instead of doing what geek says go to guru3d.com and download coolbits 2

ok 3dmark score means what?

your gonna get like 1-3 frames extra in agame

amazing

wow im really gonna notice 3 frames

but who knows maybe 800 points might mean 20 frames extra who knows

i also wanna know something do amd chips run just on speed like intel?

i mean they overclocked an intel to 7ghz

have you ever heard of hectic overclocking of amds? i havent seen that before

and if they only use speed then intel should be alot faster?

yea thats my point no one hooks up nitrogen cooling for amd cpu's but they do for intel

why?

if amd would run so much better?

i thought amd doesnt really rely so much on speed so overclocking is rather pointless

Wether you overclock an AMD or an Intel chip, is not the point.
The point is: overclocking a processor to get better performance.

BTW killadoob - where can I find nitrogen cooling for CPU's?

Cheers.

ummm tomas i doubt that you buy it dude

go search google and watch how they nitro cool cpu's
then send em an email and ask them to send one

might be able to if you ask real nice

tomasz maybe this site would sell you some nitrogen cooling

http://www.maximumoc.com/ln2.html

i doubt they will but maybe who knows :)

lol n1 ang ive been lookin for that everywhere :)

ok so it makes a huge difference lol (thanx for sticking it out with me )

now how do i overclock my 3200+

yea im up from 2.2 to 2.41 gonna try a little bit more now and check the cpu temp as well :)

got it up to 2.51

set my agp clock 7 points higher will this help at all?

Don't worry about it blowing up, you can always break up your PC for some spare parts for me, so no probs. lol
BTW I've got 2 years warranty left so no probs. there either.
Found a good site, www.hothardware.com , just in case anyone is interested in the overclocking subject, etc.

Boyz, the overclocking utility Coolbits 2.0 works like a dream.
Got my 6800GT to run (at ease) at 435Mhz and 1110Mhz. Will push it further this weekend.
Played NFS Most Wanted with maxed resolution and the increase in temp was by only 5 deg. at a measly 68 degrees. Very stable and no probs. Quality improvement in resolution was immense.

This weekend I'll be experimenting with o/c the processor.
I have an AMD 64 3500+.
Any suggestions?

Many thanks to all who contributed!!!!!

I've OC'd that proc quite heavily, how far you are able to get depends on the chip, almost but not quite luck of the draw....
Nice work on your GT,sounds about right.....
I suggest some serious research before OCing the proc to much,if your PC doesnt post and you dont know what resetting the CMOS is,then you might be stuck for a while...As Angellus said you can simply raise the HTT or CPU freq but that will get you only so far,Once you raise it above 220 or so you will start having problems because the HT freq will be too high,or it might be on Auto which can cause instability etc etc etc, also depending on wqhat your Vcore is at default, aswell as having to disable thermal throttling and CnQ and depending on your ram you may have to run a divider etc....aswell as the limits for the stock AMD Heatsinks and general temps, mbo etc.
May the force be with you.

when overclocking your GPU, keep in mind the temperature.

If you start getting graphics artefacts, bail before your card fries.

(6600GT 550/1100)

Dont worry about frying your card,if you have not added voltage or soft/hard modded.....If you get artifacts just bump down the core/mem clock by 5 MHz until you arent artifacting and continue.
