A few months back I had an MTN attempted swap at 10pm
 
This follows MTN introducing a system called MTN Verified in 2016, which will notify a number active on the network that a SIM swap has been requested – and require the swap to be authorised from that number.

Isn't this sufficient as a safeguard? No opt-in, no SIM swap?
 
When the peeps in the cell and banks are in cahoots, there is nothing you can really do.
But if you happily give out your bank/life details to any email, or complete stranger who calls you, then don't complain for being a Darwin
 
Black list your phone - and create an opportunity for someone to earn a few hundred rands to un-blacklist in less than 36 hours - must support job creation I suppose - good for general economy.
