So I have had the DNS Unlocker virus in my laptop for the past week or so. I googled how to remove it, I followed instructions to remove it but it seems as if it always reappears. For example, I removed the virus while following instructions. it seems as if it was removed but reappeared after a day or so.

I don't know what to do anymore. The following is a website I visited which showed a step by step guide of how to remove it http://howtoremove.guide/dns-unlocker-removal-chrome/

back up your data and format the pc then scan data using updated antivirus before restoring to newly formated pc

Backup non-executable file eg. docs, movies, photos and clean install. As mentioned in the above post, scan your backed up data to be safe and I also suggest you get into the habit of cloud storage backup for critical files like photos if you are not doing it already. Formatting and re-installing everything from scratch sucks but is the safest option and is fairly straight forward if you have regular backups and are prepared for it in advance e.g. knowing exactly what drivers you will need, important software etc.

when removing... was it successful?

if yes,

remove again,

but first!

delete all restore points, and turn off restorepoints.
yes, all gone)
then clean pc

and once you are sure it is truly clean, turn on restore points.
(some virusses hide themselves there for repopulation)

Hi, have you solved the issue? I got troubles of DNSUnlocker last week and finally got some help from this post. You may need to check system files like temp folder. Good luck!

DNS Unlocker is an adware program. To get rid of it, uninstall this program from Programs and Features, disable/remove its browser add-on, check your DNS settings as well as the Hosts file. To view the detailed removal instructions of DNS Unlocker, read this post: http://guides.uufix.com/several-steps-to-remove-dns-unlocker-from-your-computer-effectively/ I suggest you run the free version of Malwarebytes anti-malware to scan the PC and delete the adware quickly.
Good luck.

Thanks! That will be the last resort.

What anti-virus do you have?

I use McAfee Anti-Virus

Seems like I have managed to remove it.

First, I downloaded Spyhunter. The software scanned my laptop for adware and "found" 203 adware and spyware malicious software. Upon further reading and research about the software from various websites, I discovered that the software had a history of being a "fraudulent" software. I tried deleting it, but I couldn't. Somehow an uninstall function on Spyhunter has been disabled by the developers or something.

So I searched for another way to delete this Spyhunter. I found it and the following are the steps:
- I typed "regedit" on the search function of windows. Registry Editor appeard.
- I pressed "Ctrl" and "F" at the same time, it brought up a window.
- I typed "spyhunter" on the window and pressed the "enter" button.
- Results came up and I deleted all registries with "spyhunter" on the name.
Spyhunter was therefore deleted. I went further and deleted the Enigma folder under the systems files on my C drive. Enigma owns Spyhunter.

I restarted my computer. I went to the systems files and looked at files that seem like could be spyware. I found 3 of them, namely:
- happy22save
- foree2yooou
- doilllarsaver
I deleted all of the above spyware via the Registry Editor way.

So far, it seems as if dns unblocker has been deleted. I'll let you know if it changes and becomes installed again.

Thanks for all of your comments
