Your first mistake was using Access in the first place. Your second mistake was not having a backup.

Right click on your Access file and choose properties. If you are in luck and Shadow Copies is enabled on that hard disk, you might have a tab called previous versions, you may have previous versions that you may be able to roll back to if you can't fix the corrupt file and don't have a good backup.

And please, do yourself a favour, if your data is important to you and you want good peformance, start using a proper relational database server like SQL Server or MySQL instead of Access.

I have some access experience if you need someone to take a look at the file.

Some time ago I got a client who is using access on roughly 150 workstations and I seriously suggest that you look at other options. Any IT person pushing Access should be fired on the spot for sabotage.

People seem allergic to mysql (don't trust oracle) these days and going for mariadb.

+1 to moving to a 'proper' db system.

/dons flame suit

That said, Access has it's place and does a good job for certain requirements. I've got extensive experience with rather complex Access "systems" and if properly designed and maintained then they ran pretty well even in fairly large multi user environments. The most common 'problem' I came across was usually an issue caused by the design of db or dodgy vba code. As a 'front-end' for SQL Access can be quite useful.

My suggestion - try a compact + repair and if that doesn't work or isn't possible then create a new db and import everything from the old one? If that fails then you have a bigger problem and you'll probably need some 3rd part tool to help you. As stated above, Google will help you...

Thread Necro warning.

So a client got hit with this .wallet ransomware on Monday and so far i have been able to restore all the data (+/- 3tb ) affected. Everything except an Access 2013 Database (yes i know he should be shot for using access) which is corrupted.

Backups were also corrupted by this ransomware, and shadow copies were also deleted.

I have tried the tools available online, compact and repair etc. with no luck.

Any Access fundi's out there that may be able to help? The DB is 250mb in size and has some critial data for an in-house application that they use, but cannot be accessed.

Any help will be greatly appreciated and many a beer etc will flow if i can get this data back.

Access should not be used for critical data.
They should have migrated to a MSSQL, or even MySQL back-end ages ago.

Recovering is going to be close to impossible.
Have no backups been made to another machine?

I hear you, been screaming about this since we started supporting them.

No backups on other machines unfortunately

I followed these steps, but I was not lucky. I guess I will not be able to retrieve the data in Access 2010 anymore. I saw tools like AccessFIX but it is not free, so I do not know what to do

Backups and a better technical solution is never important or urgent, until the crap hits the fan ...

Would this help?
