Hey all

I am trying to reset IP address. I have tried switching off my router externally and internally (through the routers homepage) and I have tried a few other methods but all have failed. My IP doesn't seem to want to reset :/

My IP is dynamic.

I really want a method that will work. If anyone has a nice method I will be very grateful if you can help me out.

put the router into bridge mode and create a PPPoE connection on your desktop. That should give you a new address... if not go to CMD line and type ipconfig /renew

Hey gary, thanks I already have the router in bridge mode, if I delete my current PPPoE connection and make a new one, will this still work? I have tried going to CMD line and typing ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew with no results.. Btw I am trying to get a new IPv4 address not a new IPv6 address. For example I am not trying to change from 10.0.0.2 to something else. I am trying to change 196.210.157.186 to another different IP address.

you can try this :

1. buy an axxess 1Gb voucher from engen/pick 'n pay

2. use the login credentials on the axxess voucher to log in & surf for a few minutes.

3. log out of axxess, and reconnect back to your original ISP - your IP should have changed.

And, yes, you can create a different dial-up connection for axxess.

YMMV though. ;)

no deleting the PPPoE won't make a difference.

try shutting down all your computers and your LAN and then disconnecting the wires for ten mins.

Thanks for your help, but I have connected to my other PPPoE connection with Polka and now dialed back into my OpenWeb PPPoE connection and the IP address has not been reset.

Gary I will try that now and let you know

Ok well it seems my IP reset now, BUT I am still banned from the forum I want to get onto.. I cleared my cookies but I am stilled banned. It is saying that "According to our server, your IP is: 196.15.207.234" but that is not my IP.

Could it be my browser? I am really stumped here.

EDIT ** - Not my browser, just tried chrome and I am still banned

Saix Transparent Cache

That IP is one of the SAIX upstream cache/proxy/PITA servers that assists in making sure (almost) all .za users get two-hour old content and banned from all forums and wikipedia etc...

Best bet is to use an international bounce and hope that is not banned either.

Hey thanks for the reply, I am using IS though.. What do you mean by 'an international bounce'?

Unfortunately even IS capped non-fibre/international satelite will go through the SAIX cache cluster, it is a side effect of the incumbent monopoly.

You can either use "The Onion Router" which will get you up and running but will probably be banned just as much, you need to keep changing identity till you find an exit IP that works.

Alternatively try find international proxies, which will be slight less likely to suffer from being banned depending on popularity, google for "open relay proxies" to find lists, most of which will have been closed already.

Also try web proxies. Then you will surely have another IP =]
