I have the iBurst Desktop Modem. I want to be able to setup it so that both my Desktop and Laptop can use the router.

What do I need to do. I have the Desktop Modem connected to my Desktop via Ethernet. I would like to be able to use the wireless on my laptop to connect to the iburst Desktop Modem.

Do I need to connect a wireless router to the modem, and then set it up so the router has the PPoE user account settings?

Thanks, what do I need to setup on the router. Do I just need to setup it up as a PPoE season and put the details in?

correct :)
your not a newbie are you?

so what router are you planing to use?

oh and i know this is a given but dont forget to set up a password for your wireless router and change the default username and password to connect to the router.

I'm not a newbie. I have worked with a few routers for ADSL setups, but have not tried to setup one up for the iBurst modem. I an not too sure what router I will use. I'll probably look at eiether a Linksys or D-Link wireless router.

Ditto, I have the exact same setup with a desktop and laptop. I use a Linksys WRT54GL (loaded with http://www.polarcloud.com/tomato) attached to a desktop UTD.

+1, the Linksys WRT54GL is one of the best consumer-grade routers you can purchase. Don't forget to upload the Tomato firmware onto it as suggested above. The default firmware that comes with it sucks eggs, but there are plenty of alternative ones like Tomato, DD-WRT, OpenWRT and a few others whose names escape me for the moment.

Agreed, the Linksys WRT54GL has been around since 2005 and I haven't found anything else that comes close. The other useful router is the RB750/G (non-wireless) or RB433 (with wireless) The latter might set you back about 2Gs if you pony up for a decent power supply.

I've setup a crossover cable link between my WinXP desktop (with iBurst Desktop through USB) and a Win7 Laptop.
I can share files and access printers, but Internet Connection Sharing just wont work.

Is the only way to share iBurst through a Router, or should Internet Connection Sharing Work?
