Ive been told by the company I work for to setup VPN so I can connect to the office over Christmas
but because im only on contract im not permanent I have to use my own laptop

so how do I setup VPN on my MacBook Pro and is it safe?

I don't want them connecting to my own computer can they do this?

then use a Virtual Machine

edit:

What is a virtual machine used for?

Virtual machines allow you to run an operating system in an app window on your desktop that behaves like a full, separate computer. You can use them play around with different operating systems, run software your main operating system can't, and try out apps in a safe, sandboxed environmen

A VPN through a company is configured specifically for that company.

You need to contact your company IT to set it up. We can't help you this side.

They will need to give you the details of the VPN client at settings that they use. It's as safe as connecting your Mac to the network or wifi when you go to the office.

They should probably be more worried about you connecting an unmanaged personal device to their company network.

Depends how big the company is. Many family-based companies use ordinary home routers.

We only recently switched to Sophos for our firewall/gateway which has internal VPN capabilities.

We only have 7 people working for us.

Before that I had set up VPN on anpther box with OpenVPN.

you mean the creepy IT oke ?

All creepy IT okes are friendly...

Express VPN is a VPN service that will allow you to hide your location.
It is not a service to allow you to connect to the work server. For that your IT guys NEED to help you. If you need VPN access and your IT guys are dragging their feet then you need to send an email to the IT guys and CC in your manager.

As mentioned, for work you'll need the IT guys to set you up.

If you're looking for a personal use VPN windscribe has the best free package (and a super cheap single location option).

Yes. Get Nord VPN! It's brilliant. It's on special now for $3.29 a month. Half the price of Express VPN...

This was mentioned in OP's other VPN thread too.

@46Female I need a VPN for work as well. Only my company can set it up for me, as only their installation/configuration connects to their servers.

Express VPN etc do not connect to your work's servers.

The OP must be a savant and really exceptional at her work, only logical conclusion I can come up with how somebody who is so seemingly clueless is hired by that company.
