How to sing - Can anyone sing?

True, anyone can sing but often it sounds better if they dont!

That's not very good advice for someone who wants to sing!

Hi everyone,

Im an amateur acoustic guitar player, and I find that when playing certain songs....I just cant bring myself to sing along. I think my voice pretty much sucks. I remember at school, I was playing the bass and our music teacher basically said that ANYONE can sing....you just need to be trained and practice.

Is there any truth in that? Im not looking to sing with an amazing voice...just so that when I practice on my guitar and sing along...and dont sound so frickin kark. People have asked me sometimes to play a tune...then they ask why I dont sing along...so ja...I just wont allow myself to.

So can anyone shed some light on this, is singing only for people that have that talent and are born with that talent (ie. not everyone can sing well), or can anyone sing well with the right training?

Listen to a nice song with lyrics you know preferably. Genre is irrelevant really.

Sing along with the tune, but softly and in private so you can get comfortable with the sound of your own voice. If comfortable, increase range and volume

Main thing to remember is most people can't sing because they don't know how they "should" sound. The problem is they attempt to sound like the artist on the song.
Therefore I suggest listening to different songs/genres and sing to the tracks.

Doing this simple suggestion I can almost assure you that you will realize the true sound of your voice and believe me that a man that knows how to sing sounds like a thunderbolt in the sky. Not to say you need to be loud, but if you can control the tone of your voice, your own voice it will seriously traverse the hills
