Hi gents i have just recently started playing BF2 and from the other FPS games i have played i really battle to snipe ppl here, is there a ounce of realisem here that your bullets actually drop with distance?

Other classes are pretty ok, its just when i wanna sniper i cant really seem to get the hang of it?

Hi,

When I tried Battlefield 2 I did not notice "bullet dropping". In real life, a sniper's bullet is shot at such velocity I doubt the bullet would drop for a long, long time in my opinion ;)

You know what they say - practice makes perfect!

Could be that your ping is too slow. I use to play with a Wi-Fi connection and my ping was around 200 - 500.

In real life a bullet of ANY rifle drops the moment it leaves the barrel.;)

Just pratice with it. There is an amount of bullet drop but it's something you have to get used to. It also differs with each sniper rifle.

I never really liked playing sniper but when i went for my Vet badge I played it a lot and even managed to start liking it. It's a very specialized class which takes a while to get used to.

Things that helped me:

When you fire a round keep holding in the fire button and you'll stay in zoomed mode. Don't just click once.

Over distance aim for the top of the head.

sniping in BF2 is an art. It will take time to master.

If you are new I suggest playing the other kits a bit more and every now and again go sniper - when the situation warrents it.

Can't tell you how many n00bs play only sniper when they first start out expecting to dish out death from across the map! Get used to the BF2 dynamics first, sniper is such a waste of a kit for a n00bie. Rather go medic or support and join a squad and learn the game that way..

by all means snipe if you must, but you'll do better if you learn the way the game works first. ;)

Find a good place preferably high up but not exposed <---this is obvious---- and also where you can keep watch on a flag capture hotspot where the other team is gunning for.

Always try aim at the head. Don't hesitate to pull back or run away when you have been spotted as the guys are pretty adamant to chuck a thousand grenades on the roof-tops.

Get used to your silenced pistol, it is a lifesaver and headshots are still effective.

Don't be surprised when you keep failing to hit someone who is running all over the place, it is quite difficult to hit a moving target especially with latency lag. Always keep your crosshair on the target and the moment he stops or turns you take the headshot. Also if he is running towards you or away from you it is easier to shoot even if the player is moving. :) always practice hitting moving targets now and then as sometimes you may need to pull off one of those insane shots to save your life, but don't waste your ammo on it.

I found if I keep still I have a better chance to hit and as always going prone probably increases your chances, although I found I hit pretty effectively while standing as well.

Oh and when you are in a tight position you can lay a few good claymores to cover your @ss

Hope this helps.

It sure does, hey i actually got the hand of the Other kits to be honest the only reason im playing with the sniper is cause its uber hard to snipe ppl, my fav is the spec ops, but hey gotta practice a bit more.

For each sniper rifle you have aim at a different spot on your crosshair when zoomed in if you want a head shot. The L9681 is pretty much spot on in the middle, but in my experience I find a bit of a lag as soon as you zoom, so I suggest wait a sec before you do an insta shot. Standing, crawling or crouching - doesnt make any difference.

The SVD, I think you have to aim riiiiight on the tip of the pointer to get a headshot.

M94 - aim in the middle but half a mm to the bottom right but still in the black line. Use this especially at med - long distance shots but close range you can go right in the middle.

M95 - this gun is disgusting for accuracy.. ABSOLUTELY disgusting! So get a bodyshot (pause a moment after you have zoomed because of the lag again), whip out your pistol and finish off with 2 shots :)

Best practice is on Jalalabad on the Infantry Only server :D I managed to get 60+ kills with 4 deaths playing only as sniper in one of the rounds

And remember to leave claymores on the top of ladders when you are on rooftops.
There is nothing like someone missioning all the way up there to knife you and then getting blown away :D

Its happend a few times to me, im kinda enjoying the ak47 comapred to the m16, its funny, i play certain kits for for both Teams, i hate the medic on the American team but love it on the mec, weird.

don't you hate the fact that you have to take lag into account when switching to zoomed mode. What a rubbish job EA does with game networking.

EA Games motto: "Do just enough to make the game sellable, put it on the shelf, then change the content and call it a "new version".

DISGUSTING!!!

PLEASE no science today!

Isn't that what all companies do ALL THE TIME? New maps a few bug fixes and a new character (or two)... there you have it a whole 'nother way to make more money from an already drained consumer!

i have to agree with schitz011
i made the sniper one of my first upgrades, and it was a big mistake.
i only use it maybe once a round now when the situation is right.
what happens most of the time which tends to piss snipers off is that they hit the guy, he drops to 2 bars, but he's got a medic right by him, so he hardly dies (unless a head shot)
a good example of this is on the small island on wake island

Sniper is the worst unlock to get first, the M95 is about as accurate as lobbing a grenade!
It was the first unlock that I got and I have hardly used it since.
I spose some people enjoy sniper but I prefer running around with a squad shooting (and then teabagging :D) everything I see.

I dont have this game but my quck advice to snipers in FPS games are as follows...

1. Lets say for example you are facing north and sniping into the field below ! suddenly an enemy darts from cover runnig east(or any direction)... try aiming the crosshair a few feet in front of him and wait for him to run into the crosshair then fire and keep firing.

2.Stay hidden and always have an escape route , use smoke to hide you.

3.Plant mines or traps around you

4.Shoot at exposed targets first then Use grenade to get enemys hiding behind cover to run away from the exploson and stupidly expose themselves

5. Change roosts or posts and snipe from different areas , if you use one place too offend use just keep respawning.

6. Practice..
