Hey all, hope you guys can help me here. It's a while now that I thought of starting a web site for our business. Just a basic site, with a few links here and there. Then as time goes by I can add on to make it better.

But, I dont know nothing about this, and want to learn how it works. But where do I start, what about security etc?

The main purpose of this site will be to provide potential clients our contact info, a emailing link, a few recipees, product info, nothing fancy.

So, where do I start?

I've played around with content management systems like Wordpress, and found that they give a great result and are easy to use especially if you buy a professional template. You may still need a graphics guy to do some professional designs for it though or you may end up ruining the end result.
you can sign up here for a basic, already installed worpress site just to test the mechanics to see if you like it, and can go on your own from there

Webflow if you have no web experience and are planning on making a great looking site

Take the trial. If you are happy with the site you have made then pay for it monthly.

Thanks guys, it looks pretty easy, I will pop in here again if I need your help!

Sign-up with someone that offers self-installed packages - something where you can install wordpress with a click of a button.

Google and watch one or two youtube clips online - do it yourself..... its so easy.

Templates are key to making your life easy, head over to Themeforest.com for some great WordPress templates that are easy to customise.

Or something like Squarespace. They take care of everything.

Lol, how many PMs have you received from people asking to do your site so far? :D

A Domain name. +- $10 (R100). Afrihost option below comes with free co.za domain for the first year.

Hosting. +R9 (Through afrihost. Simple, cheap and effective especially when learning and not wanting to commit too much).

HTML or a some CMS shet.

Why not try joomla? Its basically the same as wordpress and is feature loaded!! I would be more than happy to help you out with a quick setup. Once the menu and pages (Home, about us, Products, Contact us) is setup, it is as easy as editing a word document.

The great thing aboput joomla is that you can easily add elements that you like. Slideshows, galleries, facebook boxes, forms and even shopping carts as your business expands.

For security i would use Akeeba admin tools, and Akeeba backup. Both of them are free plugins that you install on your site. It is automated, and makes sure everything is safe.

For the hosting, you will need a package that include SQL databasis. Both Joomla and Wordpress need them to install.

Feel free to have a look at our website and if you would be interested i can setup a custom quote for you. If you are willing to input the content, you will only need to pay for a custom template and domain registration.

;)

Inbox me , i wouldn't mind assisting you with something basic got some spare time anyway

GetSimple CMS will work on any shared hosting environment - no database required (that R9 Afrihost hosting will work just fine).

You can download themes for it, all easy to install and edit, easy to add/delete pages.

--> Download the "Latest Stable Version" from the site, unzip and upload to your server.
