How to start a web site for dummies?

Can't believe no-one recommended Weebly :P

I started out there a while back, now I code all my stuff - but it's still great for a self-designed website :)

Else use Wordpress - its brilliant :D

My little WordPress site hosted on Cybersmart free hosting: http://durbanhousesitting.co.za

Its not the fastest shared hosting you'll find, but then I've found some other paid providers to have slower shared hosting with less of the benefits, such as databases. :)

My company owns a few servers which I run all my sites from, but to be honest - Wordpress is still what I use to base the sites off. I design my own templates to use with the backend!

Wordpress is a great CMS , then get yourself a solid framework like studiopress. I would highly recommended Dynamik Website Builder which runs on the Studiopress Genesis framework from Cobalts Apps if you don't know or don't want to know any coding, Its point and click and I wish I knew about it back in the day.

Check http://cobaltapps.com and http://www.studiopress.com/

Wix is also cool , depends on your needs and wants I suppose.

Weebly is great , I would say better than WIX for me especially from a design perspective , but thats my opinion , I am sure others will say the opposite and it would be probably true.

I would go Wordpress as a CMS though , just feels and works better. I use WP for all my sites backed by Studiopress as a framework which is regarded as one of the best frameworks for WP. Its not cheap but worth it for me as I am able to use it for all my sites due to its flexible licensing.
