How to stop programs from launching internet explorer?

How do you do what the title says? I have Windows Vista Home Premium

P.s. It's not urgent but it would be nice to know

I've already set Firefox to the default browser but internet explorer is still popping up

In that case get a Mac - there's no internet explorer

just go to internet options and in programs take out the tick for the default

i seem to remember my installation of vista doing the same, like IE was being locked to everything... didnt really bother me as i quickly removed the OS - happy days
Oh and setting firebird to default didnt work.. :\

Short of renaming the exe, there is nothing that will stop it popping up completely.

I also find it quite irritating (XP) when programs try to open IE, and because my PC isn't always internet connected, an internet setup dialogue box pops up. I think i may rename the exe. Good idea.

I don't think you can disable it, besides changing the exe??

In all Windows applications/menus I've used that had an internet link automatically opened a window with Internet Explorer. Microsoft doesn't want you using other browsers....

Replace iexplore.exe with a wrapper that calls Firefox .

Try running firefox as admin( right click and run as admin) then if it asks to be made the default browser click yes and that should solve the problem.

it wont, run something like messenger and click on a link to read your emaills...and tadah! Internet Explorer opens...best to replace the .exe
