How to turn blackberry PING off/Disable

How do you disable the blackberry PING function?? (that annoying sound/message when someone sends you a message and they can't wait for you to get to your phone) so that is doesn't appear on my screen at all!!!

Just ping ? You sure ? I have better alternatives here

You can turn off the vibration when someone pings you on bbm, by unticking "Vibrate when receiving a ping" in bbm options.

Thanks for the tip about turning the vibration off (the other tips are also useful Just need to get my new phone first)
