how to unblock blackberry

hi guys have a bb8520 bought it outrite from vodacom, those *******s told me its not blocked but when i put in my mtn card i cant make calls just sms and bb mesenger works. pleasetel me as to how i can unlock this bb so my mtn card can work

wel if it was blocked u should be able to use anything from MTN, cause the sim gets block not selected services, maybe call MTN first

i called mtn they said everything is fine on their side and the sim is clear....if i put in a vodacom card into the bb then it works fine and i am able to make calls but not with the mtn card

I also bought a BB ouright from Vodacom and using a MTN sim in it. No problem. There is a problem with the MTN network at the moment. Maybe thats the problem?

I have said it many times before. No device, phone or modem my be locked by any south african network. It is illegal. Besides, if ure phone was locked it would rject ure mtn sim outright or ask for unlocking pin. It is obviously not doing this and therefore the device is not locked. Mtn should be contacted to trouble shoot.

Remeber, if ure phone is not used with a vodacom sim, the warranty does not kick in and vodacare will not repair it.

I've had the same experience trying to use my Vodacom blackberry with a UK sim card.

ok i found the problem, i had my cli restricted to not send out my number so when i use my mtn card to make calls that was restricting the calls, so i changed my cli to always shpw my number so now i am able to make calls. i spoke to mtn and they said they will active a cli-r to sort the problem so i wil see by tomoro. hope this helps somebody

Wow... I remember breaking MTN outgoing calls when doing this many years ago with my dad's Nokia 2110.

Such garbage- I change an obviously useful, normal setting and the phone just stops working? Pfft... Why can't I turn this on from my device when I need to, just like every other network?

Figured they'd have fixed it sometime in the last 15 years.

So if I wanted to give away a Blackberry at a competition - is there a legal way of buying one that doesn't have MTN/Vodacom software and retains its warranty regardless of what SIM is entered?

Ebay would probably be the best place, but also there is no such thing as vodacom/mtn software its simply their logo that they put in, nothing more.
I already updated both a 8520 and a 9520 with the generic blacberry software from RIM, not the vodacom approved software, it works perfectly, the phones ROM i assume just has the vodafone logo, nothing more.

I have not tried this, but found these methods elsewhere:

GENERAL METHOD BlackBerry (For most BlackBerry):

1. Insert any SIM card
2. Disable all wireless connections
3. Go to Options / Settings
4. Go to advanced options
5. Go to SIM card (SIM card)
6. Click on Display the keyboard if your blackberry is tactile
7. Active case-type MEPD (not see the letters on the screen while typing). If you have trouble try MEPPD
8. If you correctly entered a hidden menu will appear with 5 categories
9. Now type MEP2. If you have trouble, try MEPP2
10. Asked the network code (network MEP code), has 10 attempts
11. Enter the code you provide and your blackberry will be free

If you get stuck at step 9 and the code does not ask you do the following: type a SMS with the sequence MEP2, when writing an SMS characters are displayed on the screen, so you can check if the fault was in the written sequence. Also try removing the SIM card in some Blackberry’s to request the code is to perform the steps without a SIM card, while the other must have a SIM inside.

Blackberry Storm 9500, 9530 and similar

1. Enter a carrier's SIM in your BlackBerry Storm, if not the same operator SIM UA try a SIM from another operator, if it does so without any SIM card cannot perform all the steps.
2. Disable all connections (Manage Connections option).
3. Go to options (settings)
4. Select advanced options (advanced options).
5. Select the SIM (SIM CARD)
6. Press the MENU option "Show Keyboard."
7. Hold down the ALT key (shift) for a few seconds and then type MEPD (by typing MEPD the letters will not screen), this opens a hidden menu customization.
NOTE: If you put the Blackberry (touch screen) in vertical, to write the "P" twice in a row must press the same key (OP), horizontally only have to press the letter "P". If upright, it is difficult to test in horizontal and vice versa.
8. Write MEP2. If you are unable to enter the number 2, activates the numeric keypad and press 2. This is the most difficult step involves some users, should try as many times as necessary until the sequence is inserted correctly.
9. Now you will see "Enter the code MEP" (enter network mep code) and must enter the code that we have provided and give it to accept. If the code is wrong will be displayed "error code", wait for a few seconds to go away and try another code we sent you.
10. Upon acceptance of the code, restart the BlackBerry and activate all Wireless connections (red phone, bluetooth ...) if the above was disabled.
11. His BlackBerry Storm is now free
If you have difficulty in step 8, do the following: type a SMS with the sequence MEP2, when writing an SMS characters are displayed on the screen, so you can see what I was doing wrong by introducing the sequence.

Blackberry Bold 9000

1. Do steps without a SIM card in your BlackBerry, if there is a fantastic SIM pull it off.
2. Go to options (settings), for this press the button with the BlackBerry

4. Select the SIM (SIM CARD)
5. Hold down ALT and type MEPE (MEPE writing letters did not come out on the screen).
6. Now you will see a message like "Enter the code MEP", "Code Red escribirEscribir MEP" or "Enter Network MEP Code" and must enter the code that we have provided to free-mobile-for-imei.com and put the enter key or the center ball. If the code is wrong will be displayed "error code", wait for a few seconds to go away and try another code we sent you.
8. Restart your BlackBerry
9. Your BlackBerry Bold 9000 is now free

If you have difficulty in step 6, make sure you're doing without SIM card inside do the following: type a SMS with the MEPE sequence, when writing an SMS characters are displayed on the screen, so you can check what was doing wrong to introduce such a sequence.

Instructions for Blackberry 6230 7230 7290 8700:

1. Light the Blackberry without a SIM card.
2. Press menu and go to the settings menu - Advanced SIM-card.
3. While pressing the SHIFT key type MEPD.
4. Now you will see 5 categories.
5. While pressing the ALT key type MEP2.
6. Release the ALT key.
Now ask for the MEP code.
Enter the unlock code provided
Click OK and the BlackBerry will be fully unlocked, ready to be used with any operator.

Instructions for BLACKBERRY 8100, 8120, 8520, 8800, 8820, 8300, 8900 and other Blackberry:

1. Turn on the Blackberry without a SIM card.
2. Go to the menu and enter Blackberry Options - Advanced Options - SIM card (shown empty).
3. Now we will activate a hidden menu, so we must press SHIFT and select the case and write the letters MEPD (at this writing those letters will not be displayed on the screen).

6. Holding down the ALT key type MEPE sequence (nothing is displayed on the screen while typing)
7. We will get a window saying "Enter Network MEP Code"
8. Put the unlock code we provided and click OK (or enter)
9. Now our Blackberry will be free

BlackBerry 5xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx (Except 7100) Method 1

1. Turn on the phone with SIM card implementation
2. Clear coverage (Go in the main menu icon and give the antenna OFF)
3. Go into the menu (Settings)
4. Go to the SIM card option and select it
5. Press Shift (the key is "Caps Lock" on the Left).
6. Type MEPD sequence
7. Then a menu with 5 options
8. Then type the sequence MEP2 (mep bottom left key and 2)
9. We will get a window saying something like "Enter Network MEP Code"
10. Type the code that was provided and press Enter
11. Turn off and turn on your Blackberry and reconnect the antenna
12. Now your Blackberry is unlocked and free to be used with any other company.

BlackBerry 5xxx, 6xxx, 7xxx (Except 7100) Method 2

1. Go to Options
2. Then go to the option SIM CARD
3. Type MEPD (not see anything on the screen while typing)
4. Hold down the ALT key (the symbol of the crescent in the bottom left)
5. While holding down the ALT key type in MEPE (not see anything on the screen while typing)
6. Let free the ALT key. Now asks for the unlock code we provided. Enter the code and give it to accept with OK button (or enter) and you will have your free BlackBerry.

BlackBerry 7100 / 7130

1. Enter the Setup menu
2. Go to the "SIM Card" and select it
3. Press Shift (the key is "Caps Lock").
4. MEPDD sequence type (if it does not write MEPD)
5. You'll see a menu with 5 options
6. Then write the sequence mepp2 (MEPP bottom left key and 2). If it does not write MEP2. Normally to enter the P you have to press 2 times followed the same key
7. We will get a window saying "Enter Network MEP Code"
8. Introduzaca code we provided and click OK button (or enter)
9. Turn off and turn on the BlackBerry
10. Now your BlackBerry will be free.

BlackBerry 8700 / 8707 Method 1

1. Turn on your Blackberry with your SIM card implementation
2. Enter the Options menu
3. Enter the Setup menu
4. Enter the Options menu (Advanced)
5. Go into the Options menu Advanced - SIM Card
6. Type MEPD sequence
7. Then a menu with more options
8. Now enter the sequence mep2 (mep alt 2)
9. We will get a window saying "Enter Network MEP Code"
10. Put the unlock code we provided and click OK (or enter)
11. Power cycle the terminal and connect the new antenna
12. Now our Blackberry will be free

BlackBerry 8700 / 8707 METHOD 2

1. Turn on your Blackberry with your SIM card implementation
2. Enter the Options menu
3. Enter the Setup menu
4. Enter the menu Options - Advanced)
5. Go into the Options menu Advanced - SIM Card
6. Holding down the ALT key type MEPE sequence (nothing is displayed on the screen while typing)
7. We will get a window saying "Enter Network MEP Code"
8. Put the unlock code we provided and click OK (or enter)

You can try to unlock your Blackberry 8520 by getting the unlock code from a right place.I had this problem last week, So just got the code from Unlock-zone.com .You have to provide country and its IMEI number.After which get the code and unlock it.

Helping someone with this error. Can anyone shed more light please?
Googled this a bit, and found that one guy had success by doing a sim-swap
