I have a Galaxy S2 which I rooted and installed a custom ROM a couple years back. I have not bothered upgrading my Android version ever since (it's on 2.2 or something!!) and I've totally and utterly lost touch with how to do this stuff.

If I want to upgrade to the latest Android version, do I need to do a full wipe and install the default rom or any other rom with the latest version? How does it work exactly? I really want to avoid doing that :(

Any help would be great!

Cheers

cant you just get the latest version of the custom rom you installed?

^ This.

If you want stock firmware you need to flash the stock ROM. It is easier to just update your device to the latest release of the custom ROM. If the device is too old then development would have stopped on it a long time ago and you will be very lucky to find any updated ROM.

Well, depends on how far ahead this new rom is. You might need to update the bootloader/recovery first. Generally i'd reflash to the same baseband stock ROM. Then follow the instructions for the specific ROM in question
