Hey peeps..

I have a 2 x Telkom routers, One premuim combo and another 4port wifi one ( It stands up like a pc tower..) I was wondering if anyone knows how to set up a DNS server, becuase i am trying to host something off my pc, but every time my dsl resets i have to edit the DNS settings in my router.. If anyone with any one of the above routers knows how to do it and is willing to help me please let me know..

I have set up an account on DynDNS.com and have created a Dynamic DNS thingamabob. But every time my IP changes i must go and change my IP on that site and in my router..

PLEASE HELP

Get a Axxess account and use the vIP DNS feature.
Works 100% and no need to do anything funny on your side.

Have you tried to add a cNAME for your Domain name to point to your DynDNS.com URL?
Example: www.yourwebsite.co.za is cNAMED to yourname.DynDNS.com which in turn is directed to your router. On your router you forward all HTTP traffic to your web server located on your LAN.

That way you don't have to worry about the IP always changing.

I have heard something that openweb has DNS servers but i havent found any info on it.. I have accounts with openweb

The above solution should also work with the free Dynamic service offered by OpenWeb.

Freaksta, not sure if you have since become aware of the fact; in order to automatically update your IP address as it changes, in the DNS records at DynDNS, you can use an update client.

You can find a list of update clients on the DynDNS site; at the following address: http://www.dyndns.com/support/clients/

The update client will run as a service on your computer and, as said, will automatically update your IP address as it changes.

I hope this helps. :)

I am not familiar with Telkom Routers, but on other routers there is an option for dynamic DNS settings which allow you to enter you DynDNS info, so it will automatically update when the ip changes, with this option you don't have to install any additional software on ur pc for updating.

I am sure that the setting for the Telkom 4 port is done the same way as on my Microcom.

Try the followiing in your router setup

a) Advanced Tab
b) Move your mouse over Application and another menu will pop up.
c) click on Dynamic Dns Client and enter your DynDns data

Press Apply and remember to save your settings!
