So, this month i started using OpenWeb as my ISP, as i was told by some n00b that worked for them (notice worked) that i would be able to play Counter Strike Source with my local bandwidth. Little did i know that this is not the case. I'm on a 3GB-27GB account, and i was under the impression that i would be able to play CS after my first 3GB, which is most certainly not the case.

Now, being the CS: Source addict i am, my only option was to get another account, JUST so that i can LAUNCH Steam. Once Steam is open, i can close that connection and use my openweb account to play. But i got the openweb account to save cash, i'm not keen on forking out 75 bucks for ANOTHER account, that brings my ADSL costs to just under 600 bucks a month.

So i needed to find another way.

HA! You've gotta love GPRS! I created a GPRS connection to the net using my phone, ran Steam, waited a little while, and when Steam was open, i disconnected the GPRS connection and connected to the net using my OpenWeb account again. That used a total of just under 700KB, costing me about R1.40

Best of all, my PC never goes off, EVER, so i never have to do this again, unless the power cuts out or my PC crashes or something.

So, now i have 27GBs to use for basically unlimited Counter Strike play :D

I'm sure this has been a huge barrier for most gamers wanting to move over to openweb, but here's the answer :D

Enjoy :D

Just use two connections with RouteSentry. I got TelkomIntenet and OpenWeb as a recommendation

Yes, i know that method, but this method doesn't require two accounts and is FAR cheaper.

If you're gonna restart your pc or get disconnected from steam more than 3 times a day, it might be better off going the dual account way.
1gig intl/10local is R99.
90 calls @ R1.30 is alot more than that...

Yes, but in my case, this method is far cheaper as my machine never goes off, ever.

get webafrica 1gb prepaid, carries over every month so u can pay the R75 and it'll last for over a year of connecting steam, get it?

What happens when you need updates during the month? Using gprs would cost alot more than simply getting an extra 1gig account.

Noobish question, but does anyone know how to use two accounts to log into BF2? I tried simply alt tabbing out of BF2 and changing my router settings for my local 27 gig account once logged into BF2, but it loses it's connection..

Answers on a postcard to the usual address :D

Just use RouteSentry. http://antibody.za.net/extras/routesentry.php. Works like a charm. Both accounts connected simultaneously, international traffic works through the one, all local goes through the other.

Hmmm....this may sound stupid, but I've also got an openweb account and love CS:Source/HL2 Deathmatch.

So for the whole GPRS thing, how do you get your PC connect through your phone?

-=Major=- Viper

Vipertjie!!!

Volgens steam gaan daar n paar wees.
