So with houses their being affordable there and being on the list for fibre deployments, Linden seems like good place to buy.

But how's it like to live there?

Crime specifically? People are telling me it's bad.

People will tell you its bad everywhere. Linden has a good police force, close to Emmerencia damn/gardens. Also has a nice olympic sized indoor pool.

Seemed decent about 10 years ago. I used to stay in Robindale with my parents. It's a few minutes away. Only had one break in.

Crime in Linden is worse than in some surrounding suburbs (the ones with CSS and CCTV, like Craighall - it's VERY low there though.)
Certainly not the worst around, and it's nice and central for sandton, CBD, randburg etc.
Traffic on Conrad drive and Rustenburg road can be bad.
Blairgowrie is higher on the list for fibre ;)

I stayed 1 block away from Linden, and over a 1 month period there were 4 break-ins in our neighbourhood (kids and axes involved). I moved out a week later.

We've been living in Linden for the past two and a half years. It's quite disparate; 5th Street bisects the suburb, and from following the weekly crime reports it seems much worse east of 5th than west of it. There's a big drive to get sign-ups with CSS Tactical and Cortac armed response - with enough people already onboard to have vehicles based in the suburb - so I'm sure the situation will improve. It seems mainly petty crime, but around 8th, 9th and 10th Streets nary a week goes by without their cables being stolen.

We've had no reason to worry, but I think us staying in a cul de sac well off the main arterials plays a big role.

Thanks. That's exactly the type of info I was looking for.

And what about the whole Windsor East vs West thing?

Some people say Windsor is crap, while say Windsor East is crap, while Windsor West is decent.

Windsor is Windsor. Stay very very far away.

People have contacted herpes just driving through Windsor. Avoid like the plague...

Seconded on Windsor. It's the Nigerian drug capital of randburg.

You stay close to the irish? That's the only part of linden I know with culs. My daughter's BF's father stays in one of those culs - you don't have a 16yr old do you ?!!!!?

When I was still dropping her off at school, I found the traffic getting out of Linden all the way to Rosebank to be annoying. Going south to town, not so bad. There have been a few incidents reported of school kids being mugged for their cellphones, but not too many.

...

Yes on being close to the Irish, no on the 16-year-old. :)

It's not THAT bad. There are a good few alternate routes between Linden and Rosebank, although the road across the Emmerentia dam being closed for a few months is having a bit of a knock-on effect.
