How's the speed on 128 kbps package

Hi guys,

I got iBurst 2 weeks ago, and so far I had proper internet connection for 4 days only, the rest there was no connection at all or only HTTP was working properly.

So I am very pissed off and I want to find another solution for internet access. As there are not many other options besides iBurst and Mywi, can you tell me how's things going with mywi now.

I am happy with relatively slow speeds (8-12 KB/s), as long as I don't have restrictions on what protocols I can use and it is relatively reliable. So please guys can you tell me how's the speed on the 128 package, is it reliable, any protocol problems?

Then MyWi Standard will do the job for you. I do find latency a prob when putty'ing into my Unix box at work. Speeds lately (2 days) have sucked a bit, but probably due to a number of tower probs (as per their website). Keep in mind, as this is wireless, the same applies as for iBurst : Because it works fine for me, doesn't mean it's going to work for you :D

iBurst technology is great and work 100% from where I am (close no Northcliff), I can download at full speed (1 Mbit). The problem is in the WBS, few days ago they decided to suspend everyone who have exceeded the cap, although in the contracts it says that after reaching the cap one gets limited to 64 Kbps speed, which is very different from account suspension. They even accused the users that they abuse the network which is bullsh1t. Also I can't use most protocols because the connections get droped, I guess it is their "brilliant" network management. It is not a technical problem as I had 4 days of normal connection. So iBurst is good for people that just do web browsing and email, I do much more things and my old modem works better for me at that stage.

I am going to consider moving to Mywi, I need relatively relliable unrestricted in terms of protocols connectivity, anything faster than a modem will do.
 
As long as you know Sentech also pulled the "abusive users" stunt mid last year and also care less about their customers :D Get somebody to test at your place and try the protocols you having probs with. Good luck
 
International speeds looks good 40% of the time. But remmember if you sign up with sentech, you're stuck with them for a year (or 2, which ever contract you choose) and if some better option comes along, you wont have to opportunity to grasp it.

Just a thought, maybe wait a while if you can afford to.
 
Speed has been great for me for the past few days - 10kb/s+ on FTP. Managed to download about 3GB in 3 days, which is pretty cool :) I'm a happy customer at the moment... in fact, Sentech has been very reliable and has worked properly for me for well over 5 months now so I would say that if you don't need terribly high speeds all the time or don't play online games that need low ping times, go for the MyWi standard.

The higher rated packages are just overkill I think.
 
lucky you. My speeds have been shocking lately. On Friday I installed a 256 package at a client. Doing the sentech 1MB speed test resulted in a speed of 3.46 KBps. The telkom test was 6.3 kBytes/sec.

SHOCKING!
 
As for the Sentech test, I'm getting way in excess of that!

In summary:
1. Local speeds are more than acceptable for almost all use.
2. International speeds are more than OK for browsing/email usage etc.
but will be a bit slow for "heavy" users or Script Kiddies.
3. Skype works very well.
4. SIP based VOIP solutions will not perform.

Overall: Since January this year, the product has been very stable
and reliable (I've not had a single disconnect during use)
and is vastly superior to the initial solution launched back in 2004.

Not having to concern myself with a cap is the main reason I use MW!
I also refuse to use a Telkom product!!!!!
 
Dbnnet, I get the same initial burst scenario (as per intl d/l) with the 2MB Sentech speed test. Thought that thing was local :( :confused:

Make that 5.86KB for the 2MB speedtest

Thanks guy for all the feedback, I am considering it seriously. iBurst is useless at this stage, you can't do anything but very fast web browsing with it, which sucks. I used GPRS on my cell this weekend to do some important chat as ICQ and MSN don't work on iBurst either. I guess WBS is afraid that somebody may exceed the cap while chating.

After I read IT Web, WBS defending the account suspenisions last week, I am shoked. The WBS management seems to not know what this Mbit is and how fast their product is. So I don't expect much from company like that.
 
Swordfish, it appears that there are quite a few people who are very unhappy with IBurst. A while back we had to make a decision as to whether to offer IBurst as part of our package offerings but decided to wait a while and I must say we are glad we did as there do seem to be a few issues. I am sure they will work through them but this may take another few months. Also I think that the faster the package is, the more magnified the problems become so on a 1Mbit connection a relatively small hardware issue can have big repercussions for users.
