I have an HP 530 (quite dated by now), with a Celeron M ~1.5Ghz, CPUz states the chipset as i943/940gml. I would like to upgrade it's CPU, but I'm not sure if it'll work, I have been googling it, but with mixed answers. So my question is, have any of you guys tried upgrading to a C2Duo on this chipset or not and what was the outcome?

Generally you cannot upgrade the CPU on a laptop.

Well, I just want to know whether or not the chipset actually supports it or not. You can however upgrade a few laptops. It's mostly to entertain myself, I like taking things apart and putting them back together again, but I hate putting back together the same way I took them apart :P The official Intel info states that the chipset does not support it, but a lot of people say they have done this and with success, a few others can't post, but that might be down to a bios.

I actually had a 530 whose CPU died and they swopped it out for a newer more powerful one (1.8 to a 2.4 I seem to remember), worked fine but just overheated like crazy because the cooling simply wasn't designed for that CPU. Eventually got a new laptop stuck the 530 on a cooling pad and turned it into a media server for the house.

Pop open the laptop, often the Celeron chips are directly soldered to the board,if not you could go as high as a T5200 c2d chip

Thanx, cause as I said, according to Intel, this is not the case and you can only pop in up to well a Celeron M.

Download the service manual from HP and see what your options are.
