HP Compaq DC7600 not running at correct speed.

I have a HP Compaq DC7600 desktop computer here at my workplace which is not running at its correct speed. When I go to the system properties is displays that it is a Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz, but in the next line where it displays the actual processor speed is displays 2.39 GHz, .99 GB of RAM. I cannot see in the BIOS where I can change the multiplier value. I believe the the motherboard run at a FSB of 800 MHz, so the multiplier must be 3.75 but getting a CPU speed of 2.39 GHz means that the multiplier is currently set at 3. Is there anyone with some experience on HP desktops that will be able to assist me? I just need to know where in this HP BIOS can I change the multiplier.

Try to upgrade the BIOS firmware and then look for the multiplier setting.

The M/B has the latest version of the BIOS installed, but I have reinstalled the BIOS update again just in case. Same problem. It seems that my problem has stumped all the so called harware experts

Google and download CPU-Z Windows doesn't always report the CPU speed correctly.

It also might be because your PC is running in a lower clock state to conserve CPU cycles/power.

the multiplier should be set to 15.

the fsb is 200, the p4 has a quad pumped fsb, hence the marketing term "800mhz fsb" 200x4=800
200x15multi=3ghz.
your multi is probably set to 12 right now. doubt you would be able to change it if they have customised the bios.

Yes, Werner, you are correct. According to CPU-Z the multiplier is set at 12 at the moment where it must be 15. There is no place in the BIOS where you can change it, so I have contacted HP for support.

I have 5 dc7600's and they are all reporting 2.39 GHz as their cpu speed. Also gonna contact HP.

I have managed to rectify the problem. Enter into the BIOS, then go to Power, OS Power Management, runtime Power Management, and disable that setting. Windows is now reprting the CPU to be running at 2.99 GHz.
