I have a HP Compaq 615 laptop which has a broken screen. To fix the screen it will cost me around R2500 and i got this laptop for R4000 so its not worth it to fix the screen. Is there a way to remove the screen and use the laptop as a media box for my LCD TV what other uses can i use it for as throwing it away is out of the question.

Why do you want to remove the screen? Just connect it to your TV via HDMI/VGA+sound and add some media centre software, wireless keyboard etc.

What's wrong with the screen? Physically broken/cracked or no backlight etc?

You can get a screen for cheaper from places other than HP or if it's something like the backlight it could be repaired for even less.

the screen is cracked everywhere i go here in JHB are giving me insane quotes so i just decided to do something else with it. Thank you for the advice will use it as a media box with a wireless mouse and keyboard.

I recommend www.laptopaccessories.co.za as mentioned above if you're in JHB. Otherwise, I have opened the laptop before and it looks pretty simple enough to take the screen off. Just be careful and be aware that the wireless antenna are located inside the screen cover.
