If the electronics in the battery is not damaged you could just have it repacked with new cells. This is cheaper than a new battery.
If you do decide to go this route ask for it to be repacked with higher capacity (mAH) cells which will yield longer battery life.

Good luck buying parts from HP - mostly they just want you to buy a new computer and therefore the spare parts are prohibitivley expensive!

Bought my HP G70 in Scotland nearly two years ago. Battery has since packed in.

Thx for the links Ponder, didn't even cross my mind it could possibly be restored/replaced I mean, this is Glasgow we're talking about, they may as well be on a different planet those people.
