hp making a noise

My daughter laptop , win7 64, screen died,and started to make a terrible noise.

What do you think went.

not a fan that touches a cockroach..

It comes from the speakers, to me sounded like 50 hz and noisy. not a clean sound.
computer freezes and screen dies.

Could be drivers - funny I had a similar issue while connecting my LCD to my Netbook, was monitor settings (but I run Ubuntu).

it works in safe mode, I ask her to roll back the driver [display] so far so good, thanks.

Just make sure that you're not ever installing drivers via Windows Updates!

Rather just install the drivers that you get from the manufacturer's website.

Why? Is it a problem under Windows 7? I've had only 100% success doing this under XP so thats why I'm asking (getting a new laptop next week with Windows 7 on it)

Mine did something similar, but with XP. It was definitely a driver or comctl.ocx or something. I don't have the fix anymore bu Google should be able to help.
