HP Micro server as media server

You can keep it running off the USB stick if you want. Personally, I'm gonna install it on the internal drive.

Good choice.
If OpenELEC is installed on the USB that means xbmc is too - along with it's database of covers and metadata.
Personally I don't want my HTPC loading cover art from a USB stick.

Boot time is also faster iirc.

How is the noise level? Thinking of replacing my core 2 duo pc that is currently only used for playing tv shows through the tv with the micro server and then set up sickbeard etc.

Not strictly true.

Openelec stores all the xbmc library stuff in /storage/.xbmc - which is not on the bootflash device/partition.

Noise is a non-issue. The two 12cm fans I have in my AV cabinet are louder than anything else in there.

Hey guys, can anyone tell me if my Nvidia GeForce GTX 550 Ti will fit into the HP N40L micro server?

I very much doubt that.

You need a half height card and matching bracket, so that rules it out.

...and that's even before we got to the power requirements, so it's a no.

...

Good to know thanks.

Installed the Aeon Nox skin for xbmc the other day. All I can say is WOW!! I was using the reFocus skin, but Aeon blows it out of the water in terms of customisation and overall awesomeness.

Also set up my Sega and Gameboy emulators with thumbs/fanart. Its so purrrrrrrddddyyyy :D

Oooo...I didn't know you could do that :p

yep - there is also a way to remove the "all seasons" icon when in tvshows... although that requires adding a line to the advanced settings XML file (it's easy though)
