Hey gents,
Need some advice.
As the title reads.

Need it for office to monitor off site CCTV, internet, etc etc.

Pricing comes to about just under 5k for what I need.
Would you not advise a proper box with m/b etc etc?

Thanks

This is what I am getting, what would be the benefit of the HP?

HP PROLIANT N54L MICRO SERVER
KINGSTON 4096MB DDR3 1333MHZ M (RAM)
GIGABYTE PCI-E GT210 1028MB DD (Graphics card)
ASUS USB W/LESS ADAPTER (Wireless dongle)
CLASSIC USB STANDARD KEYBOARD
CLASSIC BUDGET USB OPTICAL
SEAGATE 2TB-64MB 7200RPM 3.5' (Hard drive)

Depends a bit on what you mean by monitor off site Internet and cctv... If you mean just accessing video streams, it should work perfectly.

Yes that is what I mean exactly. Will be monitoring offsite locations via the net.
No games or anything like that

In that case, what you have might actually be somewhat overkill. Unless you want to do some video encoding and whatnot, the microserver is generally quite capable.

Problem is the CPU on these things aren't beefy and upgradable as new one which can take a xenon.. so as long as there isn't a lot of vid encoding/cpu intensive stuff.

--edit--
Oh just monitoring/gateway.. should be ok

When you say new one what do you mean? Thanks guys

N54 is the older model of Microserver, new one is the Gen8's but they are pricey presently and have a reduced upper bay rack space but come with better spec'd & std socket CPU which is same as some xenons. Kinda gives you options if it's not beefy unlike N54L
