Can someone please make sure I have done my research properly and that I am not about to buy all of these things and not get to the solution I want please?

Once I have purchased and set up the HP N54L with PLEX and the ROKU 3, I will have all of my series and movies which are stored on the N54L indexed with metadata and the Roku 3 will connect to it using the PLEX app and stream all of this content to the connected lounge TV?

I can also stream to my Android phone using the PLEX app.

Am I right?

Correct.

Also you are so lucky with your timing, the Roku 3 being on special as well as the HP and Plex Media Server just received a HUGE improvement in speed.

Quote from the Plex Team:

We've massively improved scanning speed. Our canonical test of scanning in 1400 movies from scratch went from taking over four hours to just 50 minutes.

No need for the Roku. Buy a silent GT210 for the N54L, install XBMC and you have a full on media server and media player in one. That's what I did and it works like a charm.

I'm using my HP directly connected to my TV as a HTPC, but not everybody wants to have a PC hiding somewhere around their lounge, you have to consider the convenience.

If you go the HTPC route you have to have some sort of way of controlling everything as well as having to hide the box and the noise it generates albeit slight. If you go for the Roku you just plug it into your TV, it comes with a remote and it's tiny and silent, and you add channels with zero effort.

Just to add, I love Plex so much, if you go all in one XBMC connected to the TV you get your media on one device, unless you want to setup MySQL, Plex on the other hand you just install and add your media and it's available to every device you have.

I don't really have a convenient hiding spot for the N54l in the lounge and as mentioned, you still need to purchase something to control the thing from the couch.

I can see myself being a second Roku for the room as that eould allow me the same "watch and control in every room" setup as my DSTV PVR but I am ready to bin DSTV..
