Hi guys,

Can anyone give me a good definitive answer as to what the following naming convention tags mean with relation to HP Networking Hardware (switches)?

zI, EI, SI, yI?

Let me give you some examples:

HP 3500-24G-PoE+ yl Switch
HP 5120-24G SI Switch
HP 5120-24G EI Switch
HP 5412 zl Switch with Premium Software

What do those letters represent? Thanks so much!

I am not a fan of HP switches, so cant tell you. Have you looked into juniper switches? the list price might be expensive, but there are decent discounts available on them that put them close enough to HP.
As for your question,
Why not just look and see if it has the features, port density, port type and throughput required and take it from there?

I have been trying to work with a process of elimination but often find contradictions. Thanks for your help though, yes I have looked into Juniper switches, this is more of a curiosity thing than anything more.

I can't say looking at it without the product descriptions, however it does seem like a series naming (code), should it be a naming convention, ask HP themselves or their distributors.
