HP Notebook nc6320 - TPM and finger print reader:

I have a laptop at home. HP nc6320 running Vista BUsiness Ed.

It has one of these fingerprint readers in the bottom right corner of the keyboard which is exactly where I rest my palm when I type.

This causes the authenticate window to pop up constantly and annoying me incredibly.

I searched around control panel for where to switch it off but found nothing.

I then poked around the BIOS and found a thing called TPM. I switched that off and when I rebooted the fingerprint thing no longer pops up. Hooray!

I then searched the net for what TPM is and it seems to be some kind of windows security thing.

Question from me: What have I broken? What have I done?

So this morning the finger print thing is back to normal. Popping up every 5 minutes. IT seems the TPM has nothing to do with it.

Any ideas how to switch it off? HO site refers me to Verizone software that is not anyware to be found on my PC.

Got the same laptop, If you go into Control Panel, ProtectTools Security Manager. Under Credential Manager, Settings, General, there is a Fingerprints section. Try Disabling 'Enable Automatic Finderprint Capture'

TPM doesn't really have anything to do with the Fingerprint reader, BTW. It's basically just a harware encyption chip.
