So ive had my HP Pavillion laptop for the past 3 years and a wk ago the graphic card decided to give in. I took my laptop in for repairs only to be told that there is only one company in Cape Town (Axis) that has the rights to repair the HP Pavillion range. Phoned up Axis who proceeded to tell me that they dont have any Pavillion technicians and that my laptop will have to be sent up to JHB which will take 2wks. Then when in JHB they'll see whats wrong then order the parts needed from the UK which will take another 2wks. Only then will my laptop be put on the waiting list to be repaired which will apparently take between 5 - 10 days, then when repaired they'll ship it back to CT which will take another 2wks.

****ing kiff story. I really feel like waiting nearly 2 months to get my laptop repaired.
I mean surely there is another easy way? I cant actually afford to wait 2mnths to get this laptop repaired.
Was also looking into buying a laptop graphics card and replacing it myself, but i rate there are probably some complications and it wont be as easy as replacing a PC graphics card.

Comments and suggestions plz

HP has the WORST record for hardware after sales service mate. I would not touch a HP with a barge pole. They have been trying for the past 3 years to get SOMEBODY to take over the vacant position as repair agent but cannot find anyone willing and stupid enough to take it.

If the graphics card is a slot in then yes replace it, but some times it's onboard then you are UP the creek without a paddle :p

Ok firstly the guys to contact in jhb are ICSS. They are the worst company you can ever deal with, even worse than Telkom Vodacom MTN Eskom, etc etc. Took my compaq for 3 months and only after 3 months they told me they couldn't fix it!!

Changing the card yourself is difficult, plus it might be onboard. I suggest you find a guy that does laptop repairs and get them to take a look!

I would expect any half decent laptop to last about 3 years, something else will pop on it (the HD for instance) after the repair so IMO that one is not worth it unless you are able to fix it yourself. If you're going to do that then google the model and see what's possible, wrt to the graphics, now before the components are obsolete.

Next time buy a Lenovo.

Mmmm, the above does not encourage me..
But hopefully this is not my case.

I got a new HP Dm3t from the US 3 weeks ago. great machine until it stopped working.. completely.
Nothing came on, and it smelt cooked. never a good sign.

Anyways, spoke to tech support in US, which basically boiled down to that i would have to send it back with a family member in Jan to the States, get it fixed and maybe get it back middle next year.... Lovely

Then i found a number for LET ME REPAIR on a HP website.

They have offices in George, JHB and C/town. im in PE.

I called them, they collected it by courier the same day.
That was last week Monday.
Called them for an update, they said they had to order parts and couldnt give me an ETA, and being a m/c that you cant get locally, that makes sense.

Emailed them this morning for an update. Got a CC email from them asking the techie whats the story so far, but no response from him yet.

I will put messages here to let you know how their service is.

I have just returm from Let me Repair here in Midrand. I have handed in my pavilion DV9521ei. I suspect that my graphic card is gone due to a power surge that we had a few days ago. Notebook will start up, display the Cmos menu, and then all I see is color lines from top to bottom and then the screen clowly to black and then after a while to white. Also the panel around the touchpad gets very hot and the fan does not stop running.

I have phone HP and they have asked me to take it to Let me Repair and I just hope that they will give me a good job. I did take it to Incredible Connections, but they want to charge me R450.00 just to take it to Let me Repair. It seems that this company does the repairs for most of the computer brands. Quite a big place.

is that the 9000 series if so it had issues you prob better off getting a new one my landlord spent like R4.5k fixing his also +-3 years old, is it really worth it? i just bought a gigabyte 2.5 c2d 4gb ram 9600gs for like R7k wich will be dealer price. imo rather replace.

thanks a mil Josandre53 for those numbers. is much appreciated.
been doing some digging and apparently the dv9000 has an onboard card which makes repairing / replacing a mission :/ is probably just gonna b cheaper just to get a new laptop but really dont have the cash for something like that at the moment. hopefully that Let ME Repair place that can work some magic.

Good Luck SimpLe-SI. Check when they are closing in december/jan as well cos it cld b a month without a machine just cos of that.
