Hi Guys.

I think we need a new thread now ... the old one is over 300 pages, and it's a mission to find stuff in there.

So I'm starting a new one, but this time, want to catalogue support, solutions, etc below to make referencing easy.

I will update this post a little as we go, and if there are any really interesting posts you think should be included in the "Catalogue" below, PM me and I'll put a link directly to that post there :)

Regards

Itai

I'm currently running Ubuntu Server on my N36L, and have just purchased a N54L and want to put WHS2011 on there so that at least I can walk my mom through the troubleshooting when I'm not home ... plus I have been struggling to debug some issues on the Ubuntu Server, such as why 1 hard drive in my raid partition is no longer included.

I currently have the following running as background services: SickBeard, SABNZBD+, CouchPotato, MySQL Server, Apache Web Server (For dev use), FTP Service, SSH Service.

Will I struggle to get any of these on WHS2011 ... will I be missing anything?

Also, what I love about my Linux box is that it can stay on for weeks, in fact, I never switch it on and off ... except when something goes wrong from a power failure or I install something requiring restart. Is WHS2011 the same ... or is it like normal Windows and needs a restart every now and again?

Eitai I have been running Server 2008R2 on my NL36 and the only time its gone down was when I had a power failure and recently when the drive crashed. WHS is based on 2008R2 as far as I know so you shouldn't have any problems.

Benefits of running WHS2011 or Server 2008 instead of Windows8?

real time answers will work the same in the old thread?
Hmmm, I think you missed my point. I was referring to no real time answers in the Wiki, not here.
The problem with the old thread is it was started 2 years ago ... a lot of stuff is outdated in there, and it's 309 pages long, so not easy to scan through. The plan here is to sort of "continue" the old threat on a clean slate, and then as decent answers to questions appear, we can reference them directly in my first posts to make finding them easy ... so that one doesn't have to swift through a million pages. If the forumites don't want it ... then this thread will wither away ... but from just myself needing new advice, and having to ask because it is just too much of a mission to read and see if anyone has asked the same question, I feel it is a good idea.

I have an N40l running windows 7.
I have now got a N54l and I was wondering if I could just clone my OS drive and pop it into the N54?

I guess it wont work but I just thought it would be cool as all my settings and homegroups are setup.
Same gfs cards and the HDDS will be pulled out of the N40 and plopped into the n54.

Wishful thinking I guess?

I don't see why it won't work - I've done this many times with my systems - as long as it's the same base system you should have no real issues - the relevant drivers will install on first boot, if different to the previous drivers. I don't think the N40 versus N54 differs much in this arena.

I would suggest clone the existing drive, to a spare HDD then install in the N54 and boot up - if all goes pear-shaped then you still have the N40 original drive.
There may be some devices that you manually need to uninstall and then scan and re-install.

Let us know how it goes.

Lightning took out my N36's LAN and I replaced it with a N40 motherboard, no problems at all

I cloned my n36l drive to a new n46l drive. Popped it in and zero issues. (win7)

Edit: I used macrium reflect to clone it while running btw.

Thanks Guys, this is brilliant news. Collecting it tomorrow so I will report back.

NL54, WIndows 8 and Geforce 620 (Asus)

I have two NL40 (one with ATI 5450) and one stock, both running windows 8. Installation was fine, no hassles.

I recently tried to install Windows 8 on a new NL54 with Geforce GT620 - No success. Keep on getting error message: DPC_WATCHDOG_VIOLATION

I ended up installing Windows 7 Ultimate without any issues.
Even trying to install Windows 8 on top of Win7 Ultimate did not work, giving same error message.

Anybody else had this issue?

I came across a single post in a support forum that suggested that there was a conflict between the Nvidia card and onboard NIC.

Any ideas on this?
