HP ProLiant MicroServer

Hi all really need some help

I have the n40l and I'm trying to install windows xp on it (it's the only is os disk I have)

Anyway it goes through the install and then it give me an error that "Setup did not find any hard disk drives installed in your computer"

Also when I start the hp it gives me this error "pse-e61: media test failure"

Anyone else experience this? Google says it's possibly a bad hard drive...I've tried changing some of the settings in the bios with no luck

Anyone else have this same problem and manage to solve it ?

I believe someone already mentioned that XP is not a supported OS on this platform. You might well also have a hardware issue, but troubleshooting it is going to be a lot harder if you're not working within the framework of what's supported.

Hi Morkhans, thanks for the response

I had no idea xp wasn't supported on the n40l....

However, is it normal to get that pse e61 error message on startup? I can't see the hdd anywhere on the bios page when I press f10

If you don't actually need the desktop then I would suggest openelec.you can run a torrent service or newsserver from it.

It works well.

If you do want a desktop then you will have to get win 7.

It is really going to be hard with xp , I mean you might as well also ask for help with win 95.

@ buyeye

I have been using open elec, but I've decided to i want to install windows for added functionality since I want to use it as a pc for some things ( I don't have a dedicated pc)

I am just going nuts with this pxe e61 error message though...

Does anyone know where I can get network cards for 2 N40L? Need them ASAP, been phoning around and can't seem to find low profile PCIe cards, been mainly looking for Intel but am willing to go with anything that works.

Hi guys, got my receiver (thx mh348). How do I get the Harmony 700 remote to work with it. Switched on the remote, but everytime indicates that batteries need to recharged. Does it have to recharge for 3 hrs (sorry for repeating the question, if it was asked before)

Hi nadim, how exactly do I use gparted on the microserver ? Bare in mind I have no os installed on the microserver and I'm running openelec of a USB. Thanks

Gparted is an OS itself dedicated to disk management. Create a bootable flash from the gparted iso (you downloaded) using unetbootin. Boot from flash. Create partitions (ntfs preferred), format, reboot, done.

Ok I downloaded gparted and used unetbootin to boot from flash

However after that what should I do?
It gives me 4 options

-gparted live
-other modes of gparted live
-local os in harddrive
-memory test using memtest86+

I selected gparted live and then it a whole load of white text on black background appears scrolling down the page and then it just gets stuck, the power button can't restart and I have to pull the plug to restart.

The last line says "write protect is off"

I uploaded my windows XP Drivers for the N40L.

Hi, how exactly can I use these drivers to make Xp work on my n40l ?
If I download them will it help my microserver recognise my harddrive ?

Btw I have obtained a copy of windows 7 and tried installing it but same problem - get an error message that it can't locate the hard drive

PSU on main PC died. Installed Windows 7 (64 Bit) on Microserver and using it for my daily PC for now.

720p video's are playable but 1080p video's battle using the onboard graphics (no sound card though) :D

Display resolution at 1920 x 1080 no problem.

Anybody using this keyboard as a controller ? OpenElec /XBMC ?
I'm using the MCE remote with no problem but have to plug in the keyboard at times. Just easier when copying / moving etc with kb. This could serve as both but would like to know if its works ootb .
