HP ProLiant MicroServer

Weird. Openelec worked out of the box for me. Connect to the drive from Windows 8 and Android.

Have you enabled all the network settings both in system settings and openelec settings

This is a bitch to get right for a novice. I struggled for a few hours before getting it right. Basically you have to add it as a Samba share, so you have to SSH in to the box, then do something or another, then open one of the settings in notepad and add the drives as samba shares - figuring out the exact format for this is what got me confused as hell. Took hours of trial and error to get all of the drives working properly.

Just install Windows 7 and click "share drive" or whatever that setting is and bam - it's available on the network. Windows is just much easier, and all you're saving with Openelec is a few seconds of boot time, which doesn't interest me at all. It's super-fast on Windows and you can set it up to open on startup, so I see no real benefit to Openelec unless you're running a low-spec machine or are so damn geeky that boot-times are timed like Olympic races. Mine boots in under 30 seconds, straight to XBMC...

So true I struggled and gave up I probably f k up the share in samba with all the changes

This is a pic of my remote that came with my Logitech S520 keyboard and mouse combo, many years ago already. It is by far the single best remote for controlling a media centre, and I have a few Harmonies lying around as well. It does everything you need it to, and the scroll is brilliant. Batteries last more than 6 months at a time with very frequent use. Every button is customisable with the click of a button (no having to program or find codes) and you can set macros for it with autohotkey. I have no idea why this wasn't continued...

I got it as a part of the S520 combo pack. Paid about R600 for the whole lot iirc, many years ago now. I've migrated to Yatse on the phone for everywhere except the bedroom, where I'm using that one. It's just awesome. Tap the scroll on the left and right to move left and right and scroll perfectly up and down. It just feels so much better than any other remote I've used and is instant. I cannot sing the praises of this thing enough. If you can find one available, buy it!

Ok... anyone got any Game Emulators (MAME, NES etc) running on their Microserver? Bonus points if under XBMC? Doulbe bonus points under Openelec?

+1 I'm looking for a Sega genesis emu for XBMC. If you're just looking for old console games google console name and roms

Not just looking for ROMs, looking for how to integrate well in xbmc, preferably on OpenElec

So the fan on the back of my old n36l isn't spinning and I'm getting a 'fan missing' error. Has anyone replaced their fan? If so, what fan did you use? Thanks

HP Microserver Standby / Hibernation Issue

Hi all,

I have a problem with my Microserver. It keeps on going into hibernation / standby all by itself. I am no newby to computers. I have changed the power plan options and all settings to try and keep it permanently on.

No matter what operating system I run on it, same thing happens. I've had from Win XP to Win 7, various Linux OS's and various server OS's installed but it keeps doing the same thing.

Hibernation / Standby....

Very strange

I am running Windows 7 Proffessional and disabled all power saving settings (apart from hard drive sleep) successfully.

Have you checked BIOS settings
have the same issue but I quite like it when the machine is not used.
Just send a wakeonLAN packet to start it up.

I have a logitech harmony. I gave up trying to program it for use with the media center. I dont have that skillset.

I also have one of those "xbox" controllers for PC`s. Is it possible to use this with the nintendo emulator?

Are you sure you have an RC6 receiver? I found my issue was that my receiver was not RC6 compliant. And on Windows, one can use some software to intercept the signals and convert them to whatever you want XBMC to register...

I've mentioned it before but I'm going to say it again, the Flirc and my Harmony 650 is the best thing I ever did for my HTPC.

How it Works:
Flirc learns any remote control, not caring about different vendor protocols. Just walk through our super simple setup pairing individual remote buttons with 'Media Center Buttons' and you're done.

XBMC-Screeny-2.jpg

Something really great about the Flirc is the setup is saved on the device not the PC, meaning if you get a new PC no need to redo everything.

Set Up Once:
During pairing, the remote information is saved on flirc. You can even plug flirc into another computer and your previously paired remote just works, no software needed.

Has anyone had an issue with Flirc where it works intermittently. eg. it works for the first 5 seconds from plugging it in and then nothing. Then if I try it a few minutes later, it works for another 5 seconds and then stops working. I'm running OpenElec. I havn't had a chance to test it on my laptop but was wondering if anyone has seen anything like this?
