HP ProLiant MicroServer

Messugga what do u intend doing with ur system?

im not sure if i should go the windows home server with flex raid and xbmc, or just use it as a NAS, as i already actually have a media player(egreat!)

At the moment, the machine is acting as a HTPC and a NAS. I already have another NAS that's Atom-based, but this one has a fair bit more grunt, so I have 3 2TB drives currently hooked up in a RAID5 setup. Once I fill up the volume, I'll be adding another 2TB drive, which should keep me in good stead for a while.

I ordered mine this morning.
Should hopefully have it by Wed/Thurs
Cant wait. Im gonna see if I can fit 6X 3.5" drives in by maybe cutting the 5.25" bay and building a 3.5" rack to fit in there. It looks like there might be enough space.
Based on the pics and videos I have seen.

Quick question, where'd you order it from? Did they have stock? Price?

I need(want) another one...:D

I ordered from a place called Shop63.co.za.
Paid R1409 with shipping but still not sure how good the shop is.
So far service has been very good but still need to receive my item.
They had stock when I ordered this morning maybe just send them an email they replied very quickly.

Great stuff! Slightly more expensive then I originally paid but still a bargain for what you get!

Just curious as to what you're going to connect the 6th drive to? The SATA port intended for the optical drive is already severely crippled and shouldn't be used in a RAID array without a custom flashed BIOS.

He's probably going to use a PCI-e addin card! I also keep forgetting about it... keep picturing my setup with a graphics card and how you couldn't fit anything else in!

The cutting of the 5.25" bay is what I'd be worried about!:wtf: that's pretty hardcore

My esxi install, 1st test run, going, finally sorted the ram, 8gb kvr1333d3n9/4g x 2 .

Also have my drives ready, problem is, still waiting for my 2x2.5" raidon enclosure.

Testing install on a 8gb mem stick. Successful.

Bonus just discovered theres a vmware vsphere client for ipad, so managing it has become even better.

I was planning on flashing the Bios and using the eSata port and internal Sata.
Will have to check the performance. I have seen people connecting 6 drives with the 6th being a 2.5"
Which will fit under 5.25" bay.

I will have to see once I receive it and take it apart.
I will do some measuring before doing any cutting to make sure it is even possible.

Don't really need to cut the bay as the top of the chassis comes off completely. I just wanted to make sure he knows that there aren't 6 SATA sockets on the motherboard!

Ya im gonna use a eSata to Sata cable to connect the 6th drive.

You can fit two full 3.5inch drives in the top bay(well 1normal + the 250GB you get with it!)

Apparently you can fit 4drives in the top bay they will basically be on top of each other so i wouldnt do that because of heat, but the way the guy did it was put them sideways

| | | |
| | | | Middle being the hdd normally inside the 5.25bay.

instead do this
___
|___|
|___| so two drives go in lanscape instead of portait

and then u can stick another two ontop of them!
Ive lost the picture but there is a way to do it!

Im also in the process of ordering one and im going to do a build guide once i get mine, will post it on the forums etc (only in the next two weeks though, when i have some free time!)

So I picked up one of these servers today :)

Having some trouble installing Ubuntu 11.04 though... Will post the error message later.

What base OS are you guys running and how did you create the installation USB?
