Can't be much more than that as most people will add graphics card and some ram which will probably raise total cost to about R2500

Same here. I have enough tablets and laptops at home for the rest. Its going to be a glorified NAS.

Needed for sound and to play hd content. It has vga already, and you can use an el cheapo usb sound card.

The N54L does not have sound so you will have to get a HDMI graphics card if you intend to connect it to your TV. The onboard graphics is only VGA

So - cheap-ass graphics card for its location in the study so I can still use it as a basic desktop.

But I have VGA on my TV and Im not planning to run it directly anyway.... Ill use plex off a chromecast.

But I see the point in getting the card.... I suppose you can pick up a cheap one ?

Yes i use a Geforce GT210 of about R400
