HP ProLiant MicroServer

Been running PC's 24/7/365 for years. Power failures have never caused data corruption. Personally never needed a UPS.

Must be lucky :) Even had many servers shut down on me due to power failures and never a corrupted OS / data :p

An UPS is always useful when you want to keep the system on all the time and preventing data corruption from intermittent power loss.

Is all depend what you want, like how long do you need the system to be on when power is out.

Use this tool, it will give you some insight what to look for.

Thanks. Will use this tool.

Any good recommendation of an ups?
What's the standard run time for my use?

I use only APC's.

If your machine will support it try the CS 350 which includes the communications software for auto shut-down etc.

Else save some money and use the CS 325.

Hi all,

Sorry if this has been asked before but has anyone managed to connect a dvdrom to the esata drive? If so how did you get it working? I connected one to my servers esata port but not getting anything picked in windows and the drive has no power.

The Esata at the back? Esata doesn't carry power - you need to power it independently.

I have that exact UPS for my server. I can't complain, it functions.
When ordering for business, I only choose APC.
Can the UPS execute a safe shutdown incase of a surge or failure?

I don't know the product so I am unable to comment.

BTW my APC has survived both a lightning strike and a municipal "floating neutral" problem that fed 380V through my house ...

Can I get an APC for ~R500?

If you have an APC with the communications facility / software it can close down (and restart) the computer in the event of a power failure i.e. when the computer is running off the batteries.

With regard to prices: with the current exchange rate the cheapest APC is R862 at Sybaritic.

Hi guys,

Just busy setting up the N54L where I've installed an SSD in the DVD bay. I'm having a problem with Win 7 booting and coming up with some errors after installing from a USB drive. Also, I've read about AHCI, UEFI and secure boot etc which is above my pay grade and the need to install a modded bios to overcome some of these limitations. I dont want secure booting etc How do I get around this?

Have you installed the modded bios yet? What error are you getting...I've installed Win7 via USB perfectly fine...so something you've done is incorrect.

I haven't installed a nodded bios yet and would appreciate some direction on which one to go with. Also how doe I change the microserver to a normal bios?

So I modded and upgraded the bios and things are peachy. One problem is that I get the windows boot loader at every restart where I need to select to start windows 7. I have made the SSD the default drive with priority in the bios but still cant overcome the windows boot loader?
