HP ProLiant MicroServer

Yeah, I brought 3 of them within this year. They all came with low profile bracket.

Thank you, it fit perfectly, it's such a tiny card, just to test if it worked I copied a file at 112MB/s from my desktop to the server.

Also it looks like Kalahari is on the ball now, ordered yesterday afternoon and signed today at 09:26.

Great to hear it works perfect for you. :D enjoy!

Anyone running XBMC on their N54L with a GT610 without troubles? What OS is the best bet for these babies as I just cannot seem to get the perfect combo. Tried XP. Tried win7. Sitting with Server 2012 now. Seem to get intermittent stuttering video/audio no matter what settings I try with the N54L installed at my boss. But it is so random I cannot pinpoint the problem. Server 2012 is so bad right now that even VLC stutters with plain music videos. I don't know what to do anymore. :(

Have never tried openelec. Stupid question: Can I use/install a word processor onto openelec? Will I need 'drivers' for the gfx card?

I dont think you can install a word processor.
Dont need drivers for the gpu

You could always go for a dual boot option... Are you sure XBMC is using the GFX card for playback? Usually that's the cause of stuttering etc.

Investigating dual boot/ubuntu base with openelec options etc thx. Pretty sure the GFX card is being used. The N54L CPU alone cannot handle the massive MKV 1080p I threw at it. Openelec on USB is a good idea. Although I suspect Murphy will make sure that everything works 100% till I leave the room.

I run a NL36 and NL40 with gt210 cards and both with linux mint.
On my NL36 it did play HD files off the cpu with some stuttering so I still think you may have that issue.
Make sure you are running the nvidia drivers and check the gfx card temps as well.

How much ram is in the MS?

Stock ram, 2GB afaik. Bumped it to 4GB. Same problem reared itself a week or so later. I would expect the CPU to stutter in a consistent manner and not 6 hours or even days after I've touched it. Drivers up to date. Have not seen any temps.

I know I'm asking for something that's mutually exclusive, but going to try anyway...

Anyone aware of Gauteng dealers sitting with stock on a new N54L at a decent price (sub R2k)?

Isn't it EOL?
