HP ProLiant MicroServer

Ok buy it + low profile graphics card. Install graphics card, hdd's if any.

Then download Openelec. Follow instructions on openelec site. You'll have to create a bootable usb drive from which to install openelec - like a normal installation disk. The microserver should automatically boot from the usb. Install onto the 250gb hdd that came with the microserver.

Takes about 5-10 minutes to install. Reboot into xbmc.

Then the basic setup. Add tv and movie sources. videos>files> add sources. Don't forget to choose scrapers after adding the directories.

Also externals will be mounted under /media.

Last thing, you'll want to change the audio output under system settings>video to hdmi. But some trial and error here.

If you're feeling extra lazy, toss in an nvidia card and follow this:
http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...-MicroServer?p=7889351&highlight=#post7889351

It will boot and load XBMC out of the box, I've already configured it for proper playback and whatnot - At the end of the day, you can also install skype or browse the web with firefox if you like.

As a remote, the Esquire remote works 100%, though it's a little too keyboard-y for me.

Thanks okes :)

some1 mentioned something about trying to get a "centralized" library for XBMC working...

now I "Exported Library" into separate files into my movie/series folders thinking that if I now go onto each XBMC and "Add a source" from the root folders where my movies/series are, I would be able to have same results on each XBMC instance.

now I have the problem where ie, I have House from S5 and then another series Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares, and now somehow House has "adopted" the S1-4 from Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares.

would exporting to a single file /folder be better if you plan on using a "central" library?

also, how does the "Share Library via UPnP" work?

much appreciated for any help.

If you're looking for a simple, seamless multi room/device solution, maybe look at Plex. Not as configurable/extendable as XBMC but was designed from the ground up to be centralized (client-server). Big feature for me is precise central playback memory for each file, stop viewing on one device and restart at the exact sec on another device.

+1. Plex for is the king.
On my HP MS I have the client and server. Kids use plex media center on their PCs, I use it on my cellphone and tablet. Run it on the bluray player in the lounge.
Just love it.

Every few months I look at XBMC to see what I might be missing as so many people talk about it. Lasts a few hours then I uninstall again. Just feels dated after using Plex.
Then again, I also need a client/server config as we stream to multiple devices so it just suits me better.

There's a guide on life hacker on synching libraries.

You can also do this with XBMC. You just need an instance of MySQL running somewhere and then in the config file for each XBMC client you just specify the IP and authentication details.

Don't have to do any of that with Plex dude.

I gave Eden a run yesterday to see if anything changed and how it compared to Plex. Well I am back to Plex.

I am the opposite. Cant handle Plex. Eden is awesome so far. I have plex running for off site streaming but hardly ever use it tbh.

Hi everyone

Does anyone know if the GeForce GT520 2GB will fit in a HP Micro Server? I know certain(msi and leadteck) of the 1GB versions do, but battling to find someone with stock.

Here is the link to the card I want to buy:
http://www.msi.com/product/vga/N520GT-MD2GD3-LP.html

Why not just get the GT210? It's more than 100 bucks cheaper and you really don't need more power than that for an htpc, mine runs as smooth as butter. This one: http://www.takealot.com/electronics...phics-card-gt210-512mb-64bit-gddr2-pc,5391559 fits perfectly and comes with LP bracket.

I installed Constellation on the ipad2. I am very impressed - but are there better ones out there?

Ooh nice, can we please get special 4 x2tb /3tb hdd bundle pricing to go along with these little micro's

Another good thing would be to also offer the gt520's, gt220/210 as well as the compatible ati cards on special along with these.

Lotsa folks would then opt to go either pure nas - hdd's or all round media box gpu+hdd's or just the gpu for a little openelec box.
