HP ProLiant MicroServer

I am currently using grabit and winrar for my nzb's on my windows laptop but dont want to leave it on so long.
Wanted to do my downloads on my n40l but have ubuntu installed. Any similar programs?
P.s Dont want to automate it with sickbeard and couchpotato, prefer to browse what was recently added to nzbsa/newshost and choose what I want.

Install sabznbd on the N40...
Then use the web interface to upload the nzb files you want.

I use sabnzbdplus on my XBMCbuntu box on the n36l and it works. Just follow the instructions to install here :

http://wiki.sabnzbd.org/install-ubuntu-repo

Follow those and you should be good to go. It's a web based nzb downloader so you just need to configure it before using. The interwebz should have all that you need with regard to that.

@gmatthews:

if your SB claims to have snatched the episode, check both your SB and SABnzbd+ logs for more information.

My gfx card will arrive in the next few days. Is it best to wait for it, or can I go about setting up my OS. Also, why Linux (openelec), rather than windows, that we all are familiar with. OK, apart from the cost, long startup times, big footprint of windows, why would I go for Linux OS...just thinking down the line if something goes wrong, linux may be a mission to fix.

um thats why lol
but openelec is purely for xbmc - give it a try

Thanks. I tried the same settings but still dont have 100% smooth playback during slow to medium panning scenes when using openelec.

I downloaded Bullzeye.za's xbmcbuntu image and this looks much better (using same video setting I use in openelec). Not sure why, but thanks - keep the good work up.

Its just a pity that xbmcbuntu is not as streamlined as openelec - takes probably 10x longer to boot up, but worth the wait.

what boot times are you guys getting?
im getting 1:35 secs
is that normal? how do i shorten it?

rodga:
What OS are you using and what HDD + RAM?
ALso, what startup services have you installed afterwards?

Secondly, why are you concerned with the startup time? With servers you shouldn't be concerned about startup times, because they're intended to run 24/7...

im using openelec
booting from an 8gb flashdisk and still have the std 2gb ram

im using it as a htpc, not really a server
no extra services or anything, just the stock standard openelec

That is quite a long boot, I get about 45-50secs with openelec. Try a different flash-drive maybe

Just a note: It's not an xbmcbuntu image, it's a custom install of ubuntu with xbmc installed as the default GUI, and a bunch of video optimization done ( half of which I can't remember anymore )

The major advantage of the setup ( apart from the buttery smooth video playback ) is that it's easy to modify if you have a little linux experience, and the media player can double as an impromptu web browser.

For anyone still looking for Remote Receivers, I received a batch of HP Remote Receivers (not sure if its Genuine HP), works well with XBMC setup...

If anyone needs one pm me..

Price is R195 + postage R25

Thanks Chingha - will take a look although if the device is not enumerating properly, I wonder what EventGhost can do about it. Anyhow, I'll pull it down and take a look.

I was running Openelec but could not get DD 5.1 via HDMI working with my GT210. I spent a while following all the how-to's but in the end, I think there is a handshaking issue with my amp. So as soon as my new soundcard arrives with an optical output, I'll look to switch back to Openelec.

Have you come right. you need the ehome drivers which i have. let me know and i will try and send them to you...

Well yes and no - ditched WHS for openelec so got my remote working but lost my 5.1 sound :wtf: Choices....

But thanks for the offer.

I still cant seem to solve this panning issues. Tried openelec, xbmcbuntu, and unbuntu install running xbmc.

There is no jerkyness or frame skipping, but panning scenes are not smooth. I get that typical "flickering", especially noticeble when there is a panning scen with lot of detail (almost as if the frames are too far apart). Also tried the sync options under video settings. Not making any difference. So these sync options is either not working at all, or the settings is not recognised and applied.

Is there any other frontends I can try on the microserver. Or any idea. Is there any settings that can be adjusted on XBMC/openelec/etc outside of the xbmc interface menu: like driver settings, post processing. etc.
